how to change the cam angle sensor on a mk1 1.6

As above…

Help…

Mark position on CAS mounting arm above head with black pen.

Remove loom plug

Undo single mounting bolt(12mm) and wiggle out of the housing.  You will then have to spend some time feeding the CAS through wiring, bulkhead, brake pipes, etc to get it out on the offside.  Replacement is the reverse but very difficult to line the sensor key up with the cam.  It can only line up one way but can take at least an hour to get back in.  You will also need to mark the replacement sensor with black pen in the same position as the sensor removed.  This is obviously not very scientific but should get the car started before timing is properly adjusted.

I would remove the cam cover to make the job much easier but be prepared to have to fit a new cam cover gasket.  If you sensibly fit a new CAS ‘O’ ring, you will almost certainly need to use the cam cover removal method as extra pressure required to introduce the new ‘O’ ring.

Did it last night - didn’t take too long - adjusted the timing by ear - will try and find my timing light tonight and do it properly.
