How to disable the alarm on ND?

Road trip planned in Northern Spain. Ferry from Portsmouth to Bilbao (2 nights on board). I would like to disable the alarm for the crossing because they are a nuisance if they go off and also, I don’t want a flat battery just before disembarkation. I realise there is a button on the fob but I think this just disables the interior sensors rather than the whole alarm. Is that correct?

All you need to do is press the cancel button on the remote within 20 seconds after pressing the lock button.

The hazard warning lights will flash three times.

That will turn off the interior sensor, which might trigger due to motion while the ferry is sailing. The rest of the system is still active, which is perfectly fine.

I believe you are correct, the button on the fob “cancel the intrusion sensor to prevent the alarm from triggering unnecessarily” (from the manual).
I used this on a ferry and it seemed to do the job, although mine was just a short trip to the Isle of Wight!

The full list from the manual of scenarios when to use this are:

  • Leaving the vehicle with a movable object, passengers or pets remaining inside.
  • Leaving an object inside the vehicle that can roll around, such as when the vehicle is placed on a tilting, unstable surface when being shipped.
  • Hanging small objects/accessories in the vehicle, or placing other items which can move easily inside the vehicle.
  • Parking in an area where there is strong vibration or loud noise.
  • When using a high pressure or automatic car wash.
  • Continuous shock and vibration from hail or thunder and lightning is transmitted to the vehicle.
  • Doors are locked with a window left open.
  • An accessory heater or device that produces moving air and vibration operates while the theft deterrent system is armed.

So I think “Parking in an area where there is strong vibration or loud noise.” covers the ferry situation
