As a guide try DVLA site and see what comes up for plates near to yours.
Use a free email address is the best way. The other half bought mine September last year from DVLA £199 and I have had no end of offers for it. At the national rally this year one chap offered a 1000 quid for it, but I declined as will be sold with the car when I sell it.
John
Thanks for that John, I thought mine must be worth what you were offered and funnily enough my SWMBO purchased it from the DVLA for my birthday some years ago. and we are thinking about selling Cariad complete with plate in the Spring.
You have a PM
Cheers Gales
PM sent, you may get more if selling it with plate on car, but wait until the summer is here as this time of the year you can drop £1000 of the price of a soft-top car…
John
Thanks for your advice John, late spring or summer might be the right time to advertise on this forum,
I hope there are a few Toms around
Cheers
Gales.
May I suggest using ‘Reg Transfers’ to sell your plate. I sold a plate through them a few years ago. Yes you do have to give them your details but they didn’t bug me in the slightest. Just a contact every few months to make sure nothing had changed. They will give you a suggested price but you can go for a higher or lower price if you want to. No fees until it sells. Took several years for mine to sell but I had it listed at a higher price than they suggested. As you are probably intending on selling next year either on or off the car it will do no harm listing at a high price with them for the next few months. If nothing happens you have lost nothing. Every plate is unique so if yours just happens to be exactly what somebody is looking for then you could be onto a winner.
Some years ago I owned 2 numbers, namely A11 APM & A11 WPM they being my initials and those of my most beloved.
But as we were selling our good cars and in the process of moving to France I decided to sell them, so I did a search on the internet for private companies with both APM and WPM into their registered names. There were several of them and so I sent letters to them all offering them the relevant plates at an asking price of £1,250 each, I was very pleased with the responses and they both sold in only a couple of days at my full asking prices.
And now, once again living in the UK some 14 years later, I am looking around for another private plate which will be suitable for putting on the MX5 when I eventually find one.
