How to post your Flicker Photos on the Forum

So you’ve got your photo all edited and stored in your Flicker account but cannot make it appear on the Forum.

Flicker have a habit of making changes and leaving you stranded trying to understand where all the bells and whistles have gone then knowing how to use them once you dig them out.

Below is a method that I use – rightly or wrongly – it works so thought I would share.

Far better to see your picture on the Post than just a link to it.

Ok I’ll keep it as simple as possible and assume you have a Flicker account already in place, for those on PB why not give it a try – No nasty adverts getting in the way for a start!

Single left click over the photograph you want – Photo expands and shows this:

posting

Hover the curser over the box with an arrow coming out of it – bottom right –

“more ways to share”

Single left click and then this pops up:

posting 2

Single left click to place the “dot or bullet point” into the HMTL position.

Single left click to select “Grab the HMTL / BBCode”

Single left click on the drop down arrow and select the size you want (medium works well) Scroll over the size you want and single left click.

Your option selection should now match the above with a box full of gobblegook.

Single left click in this box will highlight the whole text – Single right click and copy.

Dump this into a Word Document page then delete everything before and after the line starting http and ending .jpg like this:

posting 3

This is the line that you need to copy and paste on the Forum Post:

At the point that you wish to insert your photo, single click on this “tree”

posting 4

Paste your copied text line into the box marked “image URL”

Type in any Description

Type in any Title

Hey presto, your Photo appears like this:

post 5

Single left click on the “insert” button and job done.

Nice tutorial, but jeeez, I’ll stick with 4 clicks on photobucket. And no ads on my free version?

Does look long winded I know but not too bad once you have done a few and got into the flow Wink

Nice post David

Thanks for taking the time to post this, I will endeavour to give it a try but Photobucket seems so much easier apart from the adverts of course.

That’s a great shot by the way, how about posting it up.

Kevin

Hi - I’m new here but can I suggest there is a slightly easier way of getting Flickr images into posts. Once you have the “Grab the HTML/BBC Code” box displayed on Flickr instead of selecting the HTML button select the BBC Code button. Then just copy what appears in the box and paste it directly into the draft forum posting you are typing at the place you want the picture to appear. (If I’ve done it right there will now be a picture of an MX5 at Snetterton below these words).

The only slight down side is you get the picture caption displayed below the image although this is then a link back to the full size image on Flickr which can be handy if people want to see other pictures from the same person on Flickr.  Anyway it is a quick and easy way of getting Flickr images into posts Smile

Cheers,

John

Excellent! Thanks Norfolk John, I knew there had to be an easier option there somehow.
Welcome to the club, hope to see you at an event soon.

This week Flickr have introduced some further significant changes that have been on Beta Test for a while. As is often the case these “improvements” take a bit of getting used to and the way of getting images into forum posts using the bbc code (Bulletin Board Code) has changed.

To get an image into a forum post first click on the image in Flickr to open it. You will now find there are various thumb-nail images and icons displayed next to the main picture to the right of it. The icons are what you need to look at. There are four of them - a star, a bubble, a rectangle with an arrow coming out of the top right corner and finally three dots. Point at and left click on the icon that looks like a rectangle with an arrow coming out of the top right corner. This is the “share” icon and when you point at it with your mouse pointer the words “share this photo” will appear.

You will now have a dialogue box displayed which shows various social media symbols - twittbook etc.  Ignore these but look just below them and you will see three more icons. Left click the one on the right that looks like a drawing pin. You will now have the bbc code displayed in a long box just below the icons. If you copy and paste what is in that box into your forum post the picture will then appear in the place in your post that you paste it. To change the size of the image in your post, before copying and pasting the bbc code, use the drop down menu that appears above the left hand end of the bbc code box to change the image size. There are options of square, thumbnail, small, medium or large. I’d suggest using one of the medium options most of the time unless you are posting a lot of images. This is the smaller of the two medium options :

and this is the smaller of the two small options :

The above may sound rather complicated but if you give it a try you will find it is actually quite simple - just a bit different to the way it was before.
