How to repair electric window MX5 MK1

I have seen blogs/write ups on this subject but they never go into details (expecting you to know the basics i think)…

Would love to repair the elec window myself but I don’t want to get stuck midway.  Is there a more detailed write up somewhere or better still, a video?

I think the motor/regulator still works and just a cabling issue but I can’t confirm this.

Thanks

I replaced my n/s mech. I wrote up some detailed notes inc piccies, but I never posted them. I’ll have a look and if I find them then I’ll post them on this thread.

That would be great Gary!

What a good forum

Thanks for posting this.  That is pretty concise!

Can one buy the cable only?

You can buy just the cable. After I had changed the complete unit, I had a go at refurbing the old unit. I eventually managed it and now keep it as a spare. I have to say though that the time and effort was not really worth it. Re attaching the new cables is a nightmare! IMHO this has got to be one of the worst designed things in the world. All the mech has to do is to wind a window up and down. Surely an actuator with a pair of nylon teeth and a motor that just reverses would have been better.

PS

Still looking for the “How to” I promised earlier.

Hi, I had to do this as my drivers side cable had snapped… I bought the two cables and the drum for inside the motor from here http://www.autolinkuk.co.uk/

Great guys there and i ordered on a friday and came saturday morning. It took a while and can be tricky but i did find some instructions which as always i have forgot where i found them on the net. Im sure it was the website above…

Good luck with it all its great once you no you have done it yourself.
