How would you clean an engine bay?

I see another post in here about removing white fur on alloy. Generally though in simple terms how would you go about cleaning and then applying any necessary after treatment to an engin/engine bay?

Not something I’ve ever done and a couple of our cars could do with it. I’d prefer not to need to obtain many super exotic products to accomplish the task either

In my quest for answers I dropped across this handy video for a general engine bay clean.

Thanks

Over at Mazda Menders there is a how to with Waynes Caustic Trafic Film Remover but a warning to hose it off asap after it has cleaned the items.

All you will ever need to know is here:

I’ll give that a look too, TBH I’ve gone off polished bliss a bit since they stopped on premise sales and went mail order only.

LOL…Their advice remains unaltered and the best around

Im puzzled by this reply. …and the ‘Like’

They have  a ‘Walk in’ Shop in Coatbridge

Ian H lives near Polished Bliss main premises, therefore he misses just going down the road to pick up his bit’s and pieces

aaahhhh bless him.

It’s those personal interactions we all miss. wouldn’t stop me buying a good product though:-)

I’ve always used Gunk to clean heavily soiled areas, applied with a brush and washed off with water spray from a handheld bottle. Other than that just elbow grease and get to every area possible, remove as much stuff as you can to gain access, like air intakes etc.  Finish with some of your preferred finish, mine is Autoglym vinyl and rubber spray.

My previous Mk2

Gunk, I can do Gunk

Used it on my motorcycles many moons ago, don’t need any of that poncy bollocks that Polished Bliss won’t let me buy over the counter any more, Inverurie Autoparts it is then…

I used this which does a great job used neat on furry aluminium engine parts, and diluted to remove black brake dust from alloy wheels. Then use Gunk or a similar

engine de-greaser for the rest of the engine bay.

That is a mixture of Phosphoric Acid and Hydrochloric Acid, OK in extremis, but I’d think twice before applying it to Aluminium.

Worked great on mine. The instructions on the ebay listing states to rinse off before the fluid drys.
