HRCR - N.E.W.S. Run - May 2009

You may have seen the competition in the last edition of Soft Top Hard Top. The prize was an entry in the “HRCR - N.E.W.S. Run” on the 4th of May.

10 Lucky winners started the run from either Derbyshire, Gloucester, Suffolk or Kent joining 110 beautiful classic cars and some superb modern classics as well.

The HRCR is the premier club dedicated to historic rallying, which celebrated its 25th Anniversary in 2008, and they joined forces with Continental Car Tours to present a new one day UK road run.

The event had four start points, located in the North, East, West and South of England – hence the N.E.W.S. Run.

All routes, designed by experienced HRCR rally crews, were approximately 120 miles long and converged on the Heritage Motor Centre at Gaydon, Warwickshire for the finish.

The HRCR N.E.W.S Run was an entertaining scenic run, entirely non-competitive but with plenty to keep both driver and navigator fully occupied, including a tulip route book and marshalled controls.

Although untimed, the event gave newcomers some of the flavour of a Classic Rally which is usually run to 1950’s/60’s regulations.

A full report will appear in the ST/HT August edition, but in the meantime you can see pix here :-
