At the Hillclimb and Sprint Association’s annual awards
lunch at the Rothley Court Hotel, Leciester on Sunday 13th January,
Tony Thomas became the first winner of the MX5 Owners Club trophy for winning the
MX5 Class in the 2012 REIS HSA Speed Championship in his Mark 3.
The trophy will be awarded each year to the winner of
this class which has become one of the most popular and competitive in the HSA
Speed Championship. Both Tony and runner up, Ken Morris in his MK1 Merlot,
received souvenir trophies to keep. Tony, who was overall Champion in 2010 in
his MK1, had another strong year, breaking the HSA class records at Shelsley
Walsh and Loton Park on his way to third place overall in the 2012
Championship.
The 2013 HSA Speed Championship, now sponsored by SBD
Motorsport, takes in both hillclimb and sprint venues around the country and
has seen MX5 drivers achieve a lot of success while enjoying friendly and
competitive fun along the way. The HSA
look forward to seeing many new MX5 competitors this season along with the six competitors already registered for 2013.
