Hub carriers

  1. My model of MX-5 is: ND1 2016 1.5 SEL
  2. I’m based near: NI
  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: REAR HUB CARRIER BUSHING

Hopefully I have managed to attach an image of a rear huh carrier (knuckle). I labeled each of the linkage “bushes” A to E. and trust that labelled them correctly for their respective linkages.

There is much discussion on bushes or sphericals that have given problems after a few years service. From those discussions I am not sure which are rubber bushes and which are spherical and not clear as to specifically which ones wear necessitating replacement of the knuckle or repair by polybush.

I would appreciate if anyone could advise as to which are bushes or sphericals and identify the problem ones.

Deleted, now I’m confused!!! I have tried again below.

A & C look to be ‘front upper and lower lateral arm bushes’ The blue ones here Polybush Rear Suspension Bush Kit, MX5 Mk4 & RF (mx5parts.co.uk)

A UPPER LATERAL LINK REMOVAL/INSTALLATION | 2016 ND Shop Manual (hexorcism.com) BLUE
C LOWER LINK REMOVAL/INSTALLATION | 2016 ND Shop Manual (hexorcism.com) BLUE

D is the trailing link TRAILING LINK REMOVAL/INSTALLATION | 2016 ND Shop Manual (hexorcism.com)
E is not the shock absorber, this is where it is REAR SHOCK ABSORBER AND COIL SPRING REMOVAL/INSTALLATION | 2016 ND Shop Manual (hexorcism.com)
E is lower lateral link LOWER LATERAL LINK REMOVAL/INSTALLATION | 2016 ND Shop Manual (hexorcism.com)
B is the leading link LEADING LINK REMOVAL/INSTALLATION | 2016 ND Shop Manual (hexorcism.com)

Please cross check as this may be wrong. If an error is found please let me know and I will amend.

The image shows the knuckle In the vertical position as situated on the car. As shown on the exploded diagram in the 2016 ND Service manual obtained from the link given earlier on.
Apart from what connects to what I would like to know which are bushes and which are sphericals? Also which of A,B,C,D or E eventually give the problem?

Have you read all of this thread ND Rear Hub Carrier Issues - Technical Area / Steering & Suspension - MX-5 Owners Club Forum (mx5oc.co.uk)

I am sorry if things are not clear to you. I suggest you remove a wheel and have a good physical look under the car so as to understand what has been said.

I have shown you exactly where I think the spherical bearings go, I have corrected two of your ‘misunderstandings’ and yet you started another thread on the same subject but still ask the same questions!

I will leave it with you as I now concede defeat.

You have put a lot of effort into this and I do appreciate it and you have been a help, so thanks. For completeness include an image that I hope addresses all my misunderstandings.

The ones that fail are labelled A and C on your diagram, the “booted spherical bearings” as OEM.
