I bought another toy

The ‘badge’ on the side gives you a small clue!!

It’s the standard 2.0 with 40k genuine miles (so I believe) not a quick car, not massively quick with the v8 either (7.7s 0-60). I like it how it is l though I think the pinstripe may go and I may put the correct alloys back on. It’s quite comfortable and more of a cruiser than a sports car.

Took me back to 1983 my pride and joy aged 18!

I think they’re MGF wheels too. While we’re on MG wheels can anyone help me with these. Can’t confirm which MG they’re from

I think they could be from a 2004/5 Rover 25 with the MG centre replacing the rover one.

Reckon you are just as daft as the rest of us.

Perfect. Thanks. With the help of a 3D printer for new centres they fit an Mx5

But do they fit it ‘correctly’; offset, etc? There’s a lot more to wheels than the 4 holes to bolt them on!

Looks very tidy when most TR7s have melted away! I had 5 (yes 5) new TR7 coupes in a row (BL company cars, all with Webasto type opening roofs) and a genuine TR8 convertible I bought while living in the US and repatriated it. Had that car for 25 years and should never have sold it (went to a guy in Germany); left a glorious sound behind it. None of them were great cars even then but I got to know all their quirks (there were plenty) and loved them.

Sadly its designer (Harris Mann) died recently.

Keep it standard!

Yes it’s pretty good. Unfortunately they’ve not risen in price as much as other TRs so folks aren’t willing to lavish the same kind of money on them. I’ve had quite a few niggles to sort, wipers, washers, headlights etc. Then a few more awkward jobs, the tracking was a pain to get right and sorting the ignition took a bit of head scratching until I traced the problem to the centre pin on the dissy cap. Freeing off the doors was a job too, the lubricants in the door locks had gone dry causing them to be very stiff and awkward to open and close.

However every job ticked off the list makes the car a little better.

I’ve an exhaust blow to sort out next and then a decent tune up

It’s time to own up. In 1981 I rear ended a TR7 on black ice in my Austin 1300. Never been able to look at one again without pangs of guilt.

Welcome Slartibartfast1 :handshake:

I too have mixed emotions regarding the TR7…enjoyed driving my brother-in-laws with roof down BUT whilst waiting in a queue of traffic at roundabout mid 80’s was rear-ended by a TR7 which pushed me into the car in front so my Escort MK IV was damaged front and back with the nose of the TR7 being so low it went right under the back of the car

What MX-5 have you got ?

I feel slightly better hearing your story. Thanks
Mine is ND RF Sport Tech 2.0 Auto (latter cos my wife can’t use a clutch pedal).

No Worries

It can be somewhat daunting when one first joins but if you are running an ND RF Sport Tech 2.0 then you’ll crack it in no time once you’ve explored and got the feel of it :man_walking:

And ignore any numpties that think an Auto is less of an MX-5 [A recent post about this was immediately deleted by the Forum Moderators]
