i-ELOOP query

I’ve recently bought a low mileage 2020 ND 1.5 R-Sport and noticed it has the i-ELOOP system. Not something I really wanted but have to live with it. I believe the system has been around for a while now and wondered if there’s been any issues and what to look out for. During the winter months I intend to hook up to a CTEK 5.0 smart battery charger, is this charger compatible with the i-ELOOP system? Thoughts appreciated…

I have i=Eloop and had no problems/issues connecting with CTEK & it’s plugged into the car every time she’s parked in the garage 4 years plus now .

The only issue I have had is that sometimes the stop start does not function. The display indicates that it is the battery that is causing this. Disconnecting the negative battery terminal for 10 minutes has always fixed this problem.
Using a smart charger has never created any issues in the 4 years of ownership so I think you will be OK.
Have you found the screen that shows you what is going on with the system? It is worth finding as it will give you a few minutes of entertainment plus it will tell you why the stop start is not functioning.

Thanks for the replies. Very useful.
I’ve not found the screen yet so will investigate!
Cheers.

I agree with Mad Malc. It was the same on my Mazda 6. The system senses a bad battery when there’s nothing wrong. You can replace the battery with another expensive EFB battery, but don’t be tempted. The problem goes away for a while, but only because you’ve disconnected it!

Best to ignore it or get Mazda to reset the system with their computer at the next service.

Good advice.

Is this system standard fit on 2017 models? Can it be identified in anyway on the car?

No, you’re fine with a '17. It was a silly thing added to the ND2

If you car has it:

  1. When stationary the engine should turn off (start-stop)
  2. There is a notable amount of “engine” (regenerative) braking
  3. There should be an button above your right knee to disable it:

Thanks. Glad mine does not have this. Same with stop-start. But I do note they can be turned off. Does this have to be done everytime the car is started?

And really curious what the sixth blank sqaure is used for, if anything?

It has to be switched off every time the car is started

The blank switches change based on region and trim level I believe;
In my RF Launch Edition I have 4 switches:

But my 30th Anniversary Edition only has 3:

And some switches changed location between the cars too

Thanks.

Mine has 4 because it has the safety option/kit fitted in. So lane assist, blind-spot assist, DSC/TC on/off and Tyre Pressure Monitoring calibration.
