IL Motorsport Rear Braided Hose Question

  1. My model of MX-5 is: 3.75 (NC) 2.0 PRHT
  2. I’m based near: Southampton
  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: Rear brake hoses

Does anybody know if the rear hoses in the IL Motorsport braided hose set are handed?

I am in the process of fitting a set, the front pair are clearly labelled ‘L’ and ‘R’ and fit perfectly. The rears have no ‘handed’ markings, appear to be identical and have the same labels ‘KBA61422’.
The right hand hose routes perfectly with the banjo angling down to give a gentle loop up to the inboard fixed bracket. The left hose being identical results in a sharp break due to the banjo pointing up making a tight loop which will only tighten when the suspension is loaded and looks like it will rub on the inner wheel arch.
The inboard connectors on the rear hoses appear to have six sides but are in fact four flats with the fifth and sixth forming a curved section forming a key. Turning the left hose 180 degrees to put the banjo at the correct orientation causes the inboard fitting to sit at an angle making it impossible to fit the retaining clip.

The original rubber hoses are mirrored with the banjos angling opposite ways when the keyed inboard fittings are aligned.

I will speak to MX5Parts in the morning but wondered if anybody else experienced this with the IL Motorsport hoses? I hope it is simply that I have two right hand hoses.

Hi there , I had these fitted to my road car sometime ago , the chap that fitted them did say that one of the rears was a pig to fit , resulting in a loop in the line , which he showed me , however these have been fine and not had any issues like rubbing as a result of this .

Hope this helps

Thank you very much for taking the time to respond Kev and so promptly too.

Did it look something like this?

Aftermarket hoses aren’t always perfect. I remember fitting the Goodridge ones to my old NA. The banjo fittings had to be tightened at quite an angle to stop tyre rub.

Sorry for the delay, yes something like that, but as others have said twisted and tightened for final position to avoid any rubbing etc.
