Illuminated gear knob and I.L Motorsport Armrest conversion

I had a few issues getting the console out as, once all fasteners are out, you have to twist the center console a bit, but wiring up was simple enough though. Have my mp3 usb audiolink in  the center console cubby which makes it easier to get to.

All taken into account it was worth the cost because, in the dark, I could not make out what gear I was in and the armrest is now the right height for more  shifting fun.

Does it tell you what gear you are in or just light up?

How do you not know what gear you’re in?!

The illuminated gear knob does not light up each gear you change to or even make number on the shift brighter, which would be useful, its either on or off and activated via the lights. So when the side or headlights are switched on, the gear knob lights up, also the dial that brightens/dims the car control panel will brighten/dim the gear knob too. This is the way the instructions with the kit have you wire it up and it suits my purpose.

My reasons for the install were that I drive a van daily and the reverse on that  is where  gear 6 is on the MX5 which comes out only at weekends and only if no rain is forecast. This causes great confusion and frustration when, impatiently, I try to reverse the mx5 out of the garage for a fun filled day, only to discover (or not) reverse has moved but where has it gone!

I always drive with my sidelights on in any vehicle I use so the illuminated gear knob is always lit when I drive the mx. Problem solved.

I was wondering that too.

I regularly don’t know/can’t remember what gear I’m in, until I reach down for the gear-stick.  That’s what comes of having a close-ratio box.
