Hiya!
I am about to fit a secondhand ECU and lock set to my NA and am looking for some advice on the immobiliser (receptacle, connection wire/ plug and button on key ring) that has come with it.
The ECU is the same as what was on the car originally (BPF8) and the previous owner took it from an MX5 of the same year as mine.
The seller explained that the immobiliser was fitted by Mazda at their import centre but I (and the seller) am unsure on how it should connect to the main loom.
From reading I can see that Mazda fitting these was not uncommon but I can not seem to find any photos/ info on the wiring of them so just wondered if any of you have experience with them?
Thank you in advance!
As long as it starts and runs the mx when the ECU etc is swapped out without an immobilizer ,then any good aftermarket kit will be ok to be installed by a dedicated auto spark with a certificate .

I wouldn’t bother fitting an old aftermarket (even if fitted by Mazda) immobiliser, cheap enough to get a new one and fit it yourself.
Just check that the loom in your car hasn’t been hacked about, there’s not an old immobiliser hidden somewhere in your car and your not chasing an unrelated fault like a crank position sensor.

The ecu is plug and play; there should be no issue unless the replacement is faulty or there is another issue with the vehicle.
I would not fit an old aftermarket immobiliser. These are invasive to install and after 20+ years likely to be troublesome once fitted. Most owners are looking to remove these because of an associated problem or because of a likely potential one.
Get the car running with the ecu swap and if it is desirable to fit an immobiliser, buy a new one as previously advised.
