Inattention

Saw this on a 59 reg Fiesta in the Waitrose car park in Newark.

I wonder how far you have to drive on a flat tyre to achieve this result?

About 400 yards up the road and back for my neighbour’s daughter with their Q8 late last year; nearside rear looked quite a lot like that.
No spare but the damaged rim was either replaced or refurbed in only a few hours.
Rear wheel arch needed professional paint repair the next day too.

You do know what Newark is an anagram for don’t you? :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

I once had a rear tyre blow when i was doing about 60 mph on the M25. The van was a little unsteady to say the least, and i was thinking…:poop: :poop: :poop:. By the time i stopped, the tyre was completely shredded and i was driving the last 20 yards or so on the rim, which was fotally tucked. It was not a pleasant experience but at least it wasn’t the front tyre, that, may have had a completely different outcome!

I had a blow out about to happen on the M1 once. I managed to get to the hard shoulder from around 70 mph. It was in a Vauxhall Victor (many years ago) the big bulge in the rear tyre made the car shake violently. Changed to the spare wheel (remember them) I vowed never to fit remoulds again, remember them too,?

Good old Colway remoulds, those were the days.

Not far! Remains of my tyre after a 300 / 400 hundred yards trying to find somewhere safe to pullover.

I got one of those years ago good old blow out at speed in my 372BHP supercharged RX8,… TPMS saved me and the car ….

A change of underpants was in order as well :face_with_peeking_eye::poop:

Talking of changing underpants…

Some years ago I was riding my Suzuki GT550K down the A2 when the rear tyre blew.

Initially I felt a slight shimmy from the back of the bike which rapidly turned into the back end stepping out speedway style. The back came round two or three times each side until it came right round onto full lock and gently laid down on the road. At the time I was doing about 75ish in the outside lane during the rush hour so it was a hairy experience. I was also two up with a mate on the back.

Anyway, because the nearby drivers had seen the antics of a bike going sideways for maybe five or ten seconds they gave us plenty of room. We were both totally unhurt and retrieved the bike from the fast lane onto the hard shoulder.

The bike was pretty unscathed with just a scratch on the tank and a hole punched through the engine cover by the brake lever.

We lived to fight another day!
