induction kit

hi everyone, i have a mk1 1.6 classic red and looking to put an induction kit on her. but which one is best theres so many to choose from. budget for kit is 150.00. any help would be gratefull. also will this increase bhp?

I put a Typhoon induction on from MX5 parts came with a K&N cone filter. makers say you get an increase in bhp, I’ve even seen independant results comparing different filters were it say K&N can give you up to 16 bhp extra but I’m sceptical about this, one thing it does do is give you a lovely note to you exhaust, possibly worth it for that alone. When you buy something like this and you open the box you don’t seem to get a lot for your dosh, but then again thats the world over. It just adds to the enjoyment factor a little bit more and to me thats what these cars are all about. Thumbs up go on treat yourself, you’re only here once.

i can’t find a typhoon induction kit for a 1.6 only 1.8?? is the pipercross any good? or the k&n 57i i think??

Kit here

I realy must get some shares in those aftermarket filter manufacturers. I costed the parts for the K&N mod costing £120.

Buying the same materials from the builders/plumbers merchants you can save a fortune.

I like the K&N induction kit, but then I also like the Pipercross induction kit. But which one is best?

There’s only one way to find out…FIGHT!

Wink Sorry, I’ll go now.

Get double air cone from Halfords. Fit cold air feed from nearside wheel arch. Buy aftermarket heat shield. £60.

There was a guy who looked at various filters on his E30 bmw (its online somewhere I shall try and find it) He tested normal paper filter, K&N, Pipercross ect and the filter that flowed best was the paper filter so all that K&N filter = +++ BHP stuff is nonsense. Why are Ferarri, BMW, Mercades, Porsche not fitting K&N style kits to their cars as standard if they make such an improvement. In my last car which was a Golf mk2 GTI with a 2.0 16 valve engine conversion, I fitted a K&N panel filter and butchered the airbox purely for the noise it made no difference in acceleration.

The +++BHP that K&N refer to is based on tests they did a very long time ago, on breathless american family cars with undersized paper filters…remember that they came out of hot-rodding in the US where doubling the power only required a better filter and exhaust.

Modern cars have paper filters that are properly matched to the required flow and so there is usually little improvement can be made without impacting on the engine’s life. However, taking the filter out of the airbox does still improve the sound…

Fitted a Blitz Power Induction Kit to my 1.8…very pleased with the quality and ease of installation. Don’t suppose it makes the car any quicker but it sounds nice and looks good!

But not a good thing to do, at the end of the day no matter what you fit, it is still acting as a filter.

And paper filters for car builders are the cheapest option.

hot air induction system? filter is better nearer the headlight

Hi, Induction kit developed by a company called Mazda is great. It gives good mid range torque and was fetteled over many many test miles by a group of R&D guys who really wanted to get the best all round performance possible. After market kits push the power/torque further up the rev range, great for racing when full throttle is what its all about, Money better spent on a good cat back exhaust system that will really open up the motors breathing. You can also explain to your insurace company that its not a performance gain, but a way of getting back some horses that have expired over the years so shouldnt increase your premium. Otherwise go for the IS that looks the best with the bonnet up.Enjoy that car buddy,Dont forget to pop or waveWaving

I notice on many of the underbonnet photos that a stiffening bar has been added between the front susspension mounts. Can someone explain the benefits of this, if any ???

Off Topic!

your sport should have one standard

It helps stop the car being crushed when you get hit by a train as you jump the level crossingWink

Nikin

It helps stiffen up the shell, less flex…it is called a strut brace/bar , will worth adding the the Mx/roadsterThumbs up, and will fit better/easier with an after market filter fitted…

And back to it being on topic…

Hi all, had the same problem. One supplier says the kit fits 1.6 and 1.8 engines, another says the Typhoon only fits the 1.8.

I can confirm…the TYPHOON fits both engines, makes my 1.6 sound awesome!!! Tom.
