Inexplicable Loss of Electrics whilst Driving Today (ND2)

Posting here as not got permission to post in the technical area
Car = 2019 ND2 AE Edition ~20k miles
Had just passed its MOT, so went on a celebratory run in the good weather , about 3 hrs in and 130 miles later, we approached some roadworks with traffic lights, braked came to a halt and suddenly all electrical power lost and of course the engine stopped. No lights on the dashboard…nothing could be operated. Not quite at the panicking stage, but decided to have a look under the bonnet and unbelievably operating the bonnet release resulted in all electrics being restored (have never heard of that before). So hastily started the engine and drove home without further incident
I might add that I bought the car with a v expensive lithium battery already installed + have had very odd charging issues in the 12 months since owning it

How very odd. Glad you managed to get going again.

When you say a lithium battery, do you know which one you have installed? Do you have a photo of the engine bay?

I’d also checked for fault codes with a diagnostic reader, if you’re able.

Good points well made sir, piccies will be taken asap

Strangely I was talking to someone at work today and she said her van completely lost all electrics, that turned out to be a loose battery connection.

Sometimes the obvious is overlooked, I will give all connections a good once over tomorrow

I had a similar problem with a nearly brand new Caterham , when it would randomly cut out for a second and then proceed as normal. Everything seemed ok (but my mechanical skill extended only to checking the engine was still in situ ) and Caterham Midlands took two days to find the problem - a very slightly loose battery connection . Some idiot hadn’t tightened it properly after winterising the car in a Carcoon . No prizes for guessing who the idiot was …

Good post John, I have subsequently checked the connections, but have got an indi auto-electrician coming out to further investigate.
I include this other thread for cross referencing purposes :- it does contain many symptoms that I have previously experienced

I have been experiencing Battery Charging Malfunction error messages for some considerable time, My car is 2019 30AE and the message happens randomly sometimes the dash lights up like Blackpool illuminations. Switch engine off restart no problems car drives fine, sometimes errors register on the onboard system but mostly not. Had car checked at main dealer all systems ok. I understand the DC to DC converter has been suspected as reason but not sure if this is conclusive. Clearly there is a problem and it seems to be mainly with 30AE’s.
