Infill Panel

  1. My model of MX-5 is: __1.8 Sport, 2004
  2. I’m based near: __Towcester, Northants.
  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: Rear Wing / Sill Infill Panel.

I have owned my MX5 since new and despite taking care with it and trying to keep it off the road in winter months, I have some areas of bodywork that require , ‘attention’.
In particular, the rear, near side wing and sill area, typically in the region where the ‘stone chip’ protection is applied and including the section of wing that forms the ‘lip’. Some of that ‘lip’ section has been eaten away by the dreaded ferrous; however the remainder of the wing / sill material feels very sound, when tapped with a soft hammer. It appears that a ‘cut’ along that, ‘stone chip’ upper line would remove all of the ‘problem’.
I see that MX5 Parts can supply an infill panel , for a reasonable price , which , ‘a body shop can cut, to select the required material’. There is a note that the product is sourced in , ‘Scandinavia’ and therefore the material is very good. The few revues read quite positively , but just wondered if any of you have experience of this panel?
The work is being carried out by a small bodyshop, but the owner is very experienced and capable .
Comments ?

The point of buying the panel is it cuts down on the fabrication needed. But doesn’t matter how good the panel is if the person cutting, welding painting and finishing is not very good.
I have no experience of this specific panel, but if reviews suggest it is the correct shape I would be happy to use it, the bigger challenge is getting some one who can do a quality job rather than just hide ropey work under a layer of filler.
If you have a decent body shop in mind, suggest you ask them if they want the panel, they may also suggest other panels you need to get at the same time.
