The NC battery tray has a small vent coming in from behind the grille, and the space all around the battery allows the cooling air to flow.
That foam he used for packing will also be thermal insulation and encourage the battery to become hotter than it might otherwise.
Some different non-insulating free-flow spacers or a more appropriately shaped clamp need inventing, then it’s an excellent idea.
Fab9 in the US have a lithium battery kit for the ND, haven’t seen any reports of it getting hot though.
Would be lovely to lose 10kg from the front of the car, but I’ve not read about anyone switching to LiPo for a daily driven ND yet. The Fab9 one looks reasonably priced but I would be surprised if it was reliable to OEM standards. Anyone got any experience of them?
Based on what evidence?
Got a NoCo in mine, same as Fab9 use but with my own fabricated brackets and without the inflated price tag!
11kg saved, no issues even after going on holiday for 2 weeks in December.
Only on the evidence that they tend to be recommended for track use. I’d be glad to be wrong, but don’t want to be the guinea pig that finds out.
Of course they are used in the race world because of the small weight and size, but now the price is coming down and is reach of the enthusiast they are becoming more popular, as the above link shows.
I am just about to swap to a lithium battery in my track NC and like Fab9 went with a slightly larger than I could probably get away with for some additional AH
