Installing Braided Hoses

Hi All,

Installed some Goodridge hoses last weekend as the previous lines were leaking and just tightening the joints didn’t seem to be working.

Couple of snags along the way though and i wanted to share and see if anyone else has had the same issues.

The rear hose fixings are too large to allow the re-use of the old retaining clips on the chassis mount.

The rear hose caliper sheath is too fat to fit into the calipers retaining groove.

The front hoses do not have any mounting points in the middle of the hose to fix to the standard wishbone fixing and thus needs zip ties to restrain them

Probably no use to you now, but the il Motorsport stainless steel hoses from mx5parts.co.uk are much better than the Goodridge ones. I too was disappointed at the fit of the Goodridge set and surprised as I expected them to be a good product with a name like Goodridge on them.

Being the first time i have installed brake lines i will certainly know now what to look for next time as the il motorsport ones on mx5parts clearly show the additional connections etc which i ignored when buying these. still, they were a lot cheaper than the genuine replacement ones!

Goodridge are now aware of this issue are will be rectifying it as soon as possible. Goodridge have invited customers with these hose kits to contact their customer services department for advice and a resolution to their issues.

Just sent them an email now and will see what response I get.

Thanks

Quick Update I have had no responses from Goodridge and am chasing them weekly for a response.

UPDATE!

They’re posting out replacements rear lines and some P clips which should resolve the issues. Wait and see how they look when they arrive.

Hi all, just an update on this subject and a warning, don’t buy them if you want a hassle free fit.

I fitted a set of Goodridge hoses to my Mk3.5 this last week and it looks as though Goodridge have taken no notice of previous notifications as per this thread and many others i would think. Below is a copy & paste of an email exchange so far, I am awaiting a 2nd response which i will update here as soon as i receive one. Best to read from the bottom up (apologies if it’s Granny sucking eggs and all that)

Hello Ian

It’s a similar story with the front hoses as well I’m afraid for the following reasons:-

The angle of the bend in the metal banjo at the caliper end is too severe which prevents the hose being fitted in the correct position as per the original so had to be positioned off centre.

There is no mid hose fixing bracket to secure it to the top wishbone as per the original which allows an awful lot of slack hose to foul the suspension or, more worrying, the rotating wheel so I had to manufacture a suitable bracket to keep the hose secured out of harm’s way.

Having previously been a motorcyclists for over thirty years I have always been a great fan of Goodridge hoses and fitted them to most of the many bikes I owned without any issues at all, it seems a great disappointment to find these fundamental errors so thought I needed to feed this information back.

 Thank you and kind regards

Geoff

Subject: Incorrect Fitting Notification

Hello

I recently enquired through yourselves the part number of a red brake hose kit to fit my 2010 reg Mazda MX5 which was SMA0110-4P-RD. I purchased this kit and wanted to bring to your attention the fact that is doesn’t actually fit without modification.

The rear caliper banjo fitting will not locate in the slot cut out in the caliper (as per OEM hose) as the pipe is too big in diameter, secondly the other end which connects to the metal brake pipe will not fit through the hole in the inner wheel arch bracket sufficiently to enable the fixing spring clip to be fitted in place to hold the pipe. The modifications I made were to move the banjo to the side of the caliper cut-out and obviously secure tightly.

The second modification I made was to grind off the raised area of the holding bracket on the underside to allow the brake hose fitting to come through the bracket enough to be able to slide the spring holding clip on.

For me this wasn’t a problem but I thought I should bring it to your attention.

I haven’t fitted the front hoses yet so if there’s a problem with them I will be in contact again.

By all means call me on 07795 474215 should you want to discuss further.

 Thank you and kind regards

 Geoff
