hi guys, looks like I’ll be picking up a new car tomorrow only its not taxed or insured. I spoke to my insurance company (sky) who said they are not open on Monday as its the bank holiday and suggested I used an insure for the day company. I could have put the car on my insurance company but it’s not clear cut Id be buying the car and it would have cost me in the long run to change the car details over.
Ive checked out a couple of car insurance companies who do day insurance and it’s pretty expensive but I guess a nessessity as i don’t want to set up a new policy, just amend the one I have. I’ve had quotes between £46 and £55. Does This sound right?
Also will the car be flagged up by anpr cameras/ police detection as it will be done that day. I guess Id get an email to show its insured. They don’t seem to require that much information.
Has as anybody had any good/ bad experiences and does the price sound about right? I guess I’m paying for the privileged of just having it for a day. 2 days is only an addition £20.
Most comprehensive policies give the policyholder third party cover to drive any car that doesn’t belong to them. So you could ask anyone to whom that applies to drive the car home for you.
i used these people in december; http://www.dayinsure.com/ cost £23.45 for the day suppose it depends on your age & record (i’m a wrinkly with a clean license, just)
No it’s not that easy any more. The third party for the policy holder to drive a car that does not belog to them aslo assumes that the car is on the Insurnce data base. If it is not insured by someone to get it on the database then some one cannot drive it under the third party deal.
People have been charged and convicted over that.
Also the poster is suggesting as far as I’m concerned that he will own the car therefore he cannot drive it as it belongs to him but his insurer have not got it in their system.
After the car gets to his house and assuming he cannot put it in his drive it will not be insured if it is parked on the street and if it goes on fire he has no cover for that.
im hoping to go and buy a car tomorrow. It’s 4.5 hours away so if I want it I don’t intend on making a second trip.
The car is sornd and presumably uninsured. It does have MOT on so I intend to insure it for the day and then tax it using the online method. My insurance cof pay suggested I used insure4aday.co.uk as that’s who they are in partnership with but it was coming in at over £50.
I do have a conprehensive insurance policy which allows me to drive other cars third party but not if they aren’t insured themselves.
For or the record I’m 28 with 10 years clean licsence and no claims.
just the info I was looking for. Came in at £36 which is a damn sight cheaper than Id been finding. I’m happy with that. I felt £50 was very expensive For what I needed.
just hope I can get the tax sorted using day insurance.
I used the one joe sent a link to Jon the end it came in at £36. The aegeas one was £48. Really happy. Ended up driving past loads of traffic cops too and they didn’t bat an eye lid.
I can understand how it might flag up on ANPR as not being on MID, but if you present your policy documents showing you have 3rd party cover - that will meet the requirements of the law from the drivers point of view.
At this point you are not the registered keeper, and he is the one who would need to meet the continuous insurance requirements (unless SORN).
Another option (esp from dealers) is free 7 day cover some insurers give you if you submit a full quote request.
