I’ve just got my new quote to’day. As it’s due in september. .MX5 last year was £145.00 next year £ 160.08. So gone up £15.00 . My main car was £ 225.00 last year now it will be £236.88. Not to bad a rise don’t think i will get them cheaper.
Hello everyone,
I thought you might enjoy a laugh, only drive my mx5 an average of 3k a year and never claimed, direct line want £1500 to insure my NB ■■■■, safe to say I’ll be trying Peterbest and Adrian flux first…
As above for mine on an NC . 3k a year . Protected . Full no claims with LV.
Try Carole Nash 0333 005 6824.
Hi.
Hopefully we can help out with a competitive insurance quotation.
Regards,
Dan.
Admiral latest…
Mine shot up but it was suspiciously cheap last year (about £350/year combined for the MX-5 and a new CX-5). Most motor insurers paid out more in claims than they received in premiums in 2021-22; they got caught out by inflation.
£180.00 with ‘Ageas’ at the end of April '23.
I’m 62 and have an estimated annual milage of 5000…I believe this is verified by comparing the milages recorded at successive MOT’s. I do however live in Northern Ireland which normally means a higher premium compared to the rest of the UK, which explains why I’m pleasantly surprised. This is the first year I’ve specified an annual milage…and it made a big difference.
It’s a 2010 with 55,000 odd miles so I think this is reasonable.
(I bought it at 6 months old with 18 miles on the clock- in Preston, in the heavy snowfall of 2010).
This is incredible to me. Direct Line quoted me £199 for 4,000 miles and £222 for 6,000 miles on my NC. I phoned up to see how much it would be for 5,000 miles and they told me £198. (Which makes not a lot of sense anyway, does it?) So why the hell they’d want seven times as much money from you I really cannot imagine.
Brian.
After a good amount of tinkering on comparison sites, managed to get quotes of £300-400 so a bit more reasonable.
Not sure if cars are the same as motorbikes for annual mileage.
For motorbikes I and many others have found that 5000 miles a year is the sweet spot.
Those with a few bikes used to put 3000 miles a year per bike and the quotes were quite high.
By using 5000 miles a year - the quotes seemed to bottom out in price.
One of my neighbours has just had his renewal, 1.2 Corsa no accidents or convictions. I told him a few years ago as he doesn’t do internet (80 years old) I’ll try for a better deal for you.
Anyways the renewal was £746, last year he paid over £400, with LV. Worse if he carries on via DD, £67 per month.
I said I’ll still try some internet quotes for you, he said someone has already tried for me, not much better.
My dad found that once he got to 80 his insurance started to rise quickly despite many years of no claims behind him.
They start to rise slightly at about 60 but yes, it gets very expensive at 80. My late father had to make my mother (8 years younger) the owner of the car and the main driver instead, which brought it down a bit.
That’s what I suggested is part of the reason it’s shot up this time.
I think he needs to chop something off (not an arm or leg) to help pay the premium😁
Knowing him he’s got full blown cover, breakdown, legal cover, protected this and that. I usually cut all that stuff out of my policies.
My dad was refused insurance by many companies once he got to 80. He drove until he was 85 and parked a yard from the pavement when he visited our house. My mum used to wake him up to drive home in the dark.
When I was sorting out his paperwork after he died I found evidence of two accidents that he had and not told me about, driving into other people at junctions.
I have been caught out now too. After sing the praises of LV Insurance previously, my premium has gone from £233 last year to £375 this year .
I have done all the comparison web sites, Direct Line and Adrian Flux, all no good and none could beat the renewal quote .
I am going to have to bite the bullet and renew.
My NC’s cover went up from £161 last year to £201 a week ago with RAC. It was £202 two years ago.
Each of those included their £40 “Intermediary services fee” ie commission, plus a few pounds more protecting the NCD.
This year all the meerkats and their competitors were in the £200 to £205 region so I let RAC autorenew.
Dealing direct with an insurer can sometimes cut out the commission, but most of the “insurers” now tend to be agents for the insurer, with that commission built in.
Sighs, oh well…
Curiosity got the better of me and I got a quote for the daily driver, it’s not due until late November. Quote me happy, the company, puts it up by around £100, I did get breakdown cover thrown in, currently I don’t have that on any policy.
Not tried the NC, I think I’ll be shifting it to a specialist for modified insurance if Admiral don’t come up with a reasonable quote.
Realise things could change by November, hopefully prices won’t spiral upwards too much.
