I’m looking at one of these stick on trim kits on ebay,
Are they any good, is the finish good, does anyone have something like this fitted?

Go for one of these. I’ve got one of their kits in my Mk1 and it looks a treat. Far cheaper and UK sourced.
Out of my Mk 1, rather than a later car but you get the idea…
I’ve found the wood vinyl to be very realistic and hard wearing, got mine through a German company so couldn’t comment directly about the quality of the eBay ones you link to.
That looks really smart and is just what I am after. I think the one I am looking at comes from the US via a UK supplier. Do you have a link your German supplier? What wood finish is that? It lloks like walnut. My car is red with a black interior so I was thinking of possibly going for a cherry type finish or maybe the walnut that the ebay ad shows.
It was these guys but I can’t find them now…

However, I’ve seen this in the flesh and if I were a betting man I’d say its the exact same thing:

They do a Mk2 kit too but I’ve not seen it in the flesh, price might make you wince a little but IIRC I paid about £80 import when the pound was quite strong against the Euro so about right.
Hope this helps.

I think I may well have one of the kits in your original post. A lot of 5 owners, far more up on this stuff than me, are often baffled by my set up as they have never seen a full trim kit including the ones around the little tweeters up near the wing mirrors.
I may well have some photos knocking about and will post here later, if not, I’ll take some tomorrow and post them. It’s a cracking set that looks the business.
OK, this only shows the central console and the trims around the air “eyes”. I took it to show someone the dash, I think!
I’ll take one of the door tweeter surrounds tomorrow and post.
and here is the tweeter surround that causes all the gasps and exclamations amongst the anaroks! The rear looks a little proud of the door card, it isn’t it’s a very good fit, just a bad pic.
Dave,
Have a look at these
Not too sure where in Essex you are but these guys are in Colchester.
I’ve had mine about 18 months or so now and it’s been fine; they did have a dodgy batch of material which was failing of which my brother fell victim but they soon replaced it with no problems since. They do sell on ebay too and I negotiated a price mid way between the internet and ebay prices. If it’s convenient for you, why not pop in and have a chat with them otherwise they are only too happy to send out samples of the different shades.
If you want to have a look at mine, you only have to ask!
Brian
Thanks for the replies folks and the photos too. A recommendation goes a long way and I may give the Colchester shop a call, ( I am in South Woodham). But the full trim set also looks good too…
Descisions descisions.
Well father Christmas brought me the MX5Parts set. It looks real nice quality and is pretty comprehensive too. Its burr walnut, Only problem is it too damn cold to fit it. Bah!
There’s a warm snap coming in the next day or two, get that glue warmed up, bang the heaters on ion the car for half an hour, and get some pics up on the forum ;o)
I finally fitted my wood vaneer kit today. Its the MX5Parts kit, which is German in origin and is very nice quality. The photos dont really do it full justice, it looks much better in the flesh. It was mild enough today but I also used a hair dryer to warm the parts up after fitting as this was reccomended in the instructions.
Before fitting:
After fitting. I had already fitted silvered air vent rings. the wooden rings I fitted onto these rather than remove them, I think they look OK:
The kit also included door arm rest sections and vent surrounds:
I have spotted a wooden gear nob on FleaBay, so if its not too dear I might get that in a couple of days too
iff its the same as the one i bought off ebay dont bother its cheap tat
send the link and ill tell you iff it is
