Introducing the AMILLIM XS

Right Boys and Girls, MoT are going to be involved in this very exciting new race car next year in the MaX5 Championship.
We are looking at a £10k plus the donor car for the entry level car which for an Aluminium honeycomb design is pretty special. Anyway, here are the specs, the first chassis is made and the body moulds being machined at this moment.
A rolling, driving chassis will be at Mallory and it is rather sexy. Come and have a look on the 12th.

A new era for a series of GT racing cars utilising current technology with a firm focus to create an affordable package with where possible “green” credentials.
Designed and conceived by Enzo Design
Built in association with Graham Hatherway Engineering.

The Ethos:
The Amillim XS is a small GT styled race car designed to be affordable and where possible “Green”. It is designed to be a budget entry level into Motorsport that can be upgraded through a class structure, and be used in other applications too.

The Body:
A lightweight GRP bodyshell has been specifically designed for the Amillim XS. The basic shape uses styling cues from the Aston Martin range of sports cars to give it a pleasing contemporary, British GT style. The reuse of the donor cars core components means items such as windscreen wiper motors, heater units, door locks and hinges are carried over reducing the primary build cost and increasing the overall build quality.

The Chassis:
The chassis needed to be both cost sensitive and upgradeable, so drawing on our experiences with the Ford RS200 an aluminium honeycomb tub has been designed, a carbon honeycomb upgrade is also available, this central tub then uses steel front and rear out riggers in the base level car, through to aluminium ones in the top spec cars, these are modular and allow the vehicle to progress through the class’s without the need to buy a new chassis or have it modified.
This modular approach has been designed specifically to ensure that service and major repairs can be carried out easily, a 20 minute target has been set for all major component replacement, as in rally designed cars, to allow cars to be repaired between practice and same day race scenario’s to maximise the vehicle use and enjoyment.
Making the chassis as a central tub with upgradeable units allows the entry level Amillim XS to be upgraded to a higher specification model and also means any major race day damage can be repaired without great expense. A primary consideration was for the required spares package needed to attend a race so a car that has started as a G1 spec car and has been upgraded to a G4 car could carry the G1 components as spares, as these parts can be re-fitted after any upgrade has been carried out a lower spec car could be put back on the grid without the need to carry a full spares package should the worst happen. The factory will also attend race days with spares and hospitality facilities to ensure full enjoyment of the package.

The Engine:
Concentrating still on the modular and cost sensitive approach a series of Engine upgrades has been worked on to spread the cost and maintains an even performance.
Entry level is stock engine, first upgrade is bolt on power only using a management system and throttle bodies so any engine failure can be easily swapped with another stock engine, next a move onto the newer VT engine again with stock and bolt on power options. From here we move to a blue printed engine supplied by Geoff Page Racing before the final option of our own design 1500cc turbo engine.

The Donor Car:
To achieve our goal it was important to find the correct donor car, it was essential to use a single donor to maintain our cost criteria. We decided on the Mazda MX5 (Miata) as a perfect source for many reasons, packaging, component availability and model range were among the obvious ones. Delving further into the car it has proven to be a well made decision as the Mazda technicians seemed to have similar goals and design ideas to ourselves making for an easy transplantable base car fitting out tuning requirements.

The Championship:
The Amillim XS will run a joint championship in 2010 with the Max 5 championship.
In association with Mazda On Track 10 arrive and drive cars will be available for both single events and full season hire.
Enzo Design will attend with both hospitality and spares all UK race day events.

I’d love to see pictures of the car - also would it be possible to SVA one and get it on the road?

I have pictures but can’t release them yet. Think current Aston Martin though.

I am sure owners would be able to SVA them, but for a manufacturer it does not make economical sense. If you have read the resent reports on the new Lotus Evora you will understand why.

we’ll get Jamie Tink (jimbobsquarepants) to look it over at Mallory and let you know about the SVA !  He will enjoy that … LOL

 Here you go

Will have to be IVA now guys…SVA no longer applies to passenger vehicles [;)]
