Introduction from MK

Hello All,

Joined the forum as inadvertently acquired my father’s MX-5 2.0l Sport. 56 plate :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

Cracking little car, just been MOTd and was ready for a summer of fun until my neighbour reversed into it the following day.

Unfortunately I now have a project on my hands as the front o/s wing needs replacing, bumper needs repairing and wheel needs refurbing.

Neighbour claimed on insurance and unfortunately it’s been deemed a Cat N write off. I’ve settled with the insurance company but decided to retain it for lower offer

So, my question to you guys is- What would you do next?

FYI, car in otherwise good condition, 137k on the clock. Photo shows bad side :frowning:

Cheers

Welcome. Looking at the picture I’d guess your neighbour was reversing a truck way too fast. That’s quite a heavy hit so you would have to expect there to be damage that you can’t see and depending on the normal things like rust and general wear and tear could be big project.

Welcome, personally I’d try to find a second hand bumper and wing. If you get really really lucky you may even get the right colour..

Check the suspension and steering gear for hidden damage.

Good luck!

Hi Phil, welcome aboard.

That will be a nice looking car when you get it fixed.

I agree with Davie, try to find pre owned items.

It doesn’t look a difficult fix on the face of it. If you’re lucky you may have even some change from the insurance settlement.

Please keep us in the loop with how you get on.

Cheers,

Guy

I would definitely repair that car! You’d be surprised at the huge sense of achievement and satisfaction that a project like that can give you, more so with the family connection. :+1:

Remove the wing and bumper to see what else may be damaged behind.
Suspension arms and linkages took some beating, so definitely check those; also steering rack.

If I was in your situation, I’d want to keep that car going and at least on first impressions, it doesn’t look too difficult to fix at home.

Good luck.
