ipod transmitter to car radio

anyone use/used one of these sort of things?

I had one years ago but can’t remember if any good.

my CD stopped working but would like to link my ipod without spending much (must be my Scottish heritage)

any cheap suggestions most welcome as I can only hear the music at lower speeds anyway due to loud exhaust music.

I have a couple of those. Neither were great.

Transmit over FM and you have to change frequency as you drive as different radio stations come into range and interfere.

Sound quality wasn’t brilliant.

Better to use a cable to the AUX socket if you have one (is it not standard on the Mk3)

thanks for that info. never thought about shifting frequencies.

you’re right, no Aux socket.

A cheap solution is this Joe

Read the reviews on it on that Amazon page.

You may just be able to get at the connection on the rear of the head unit via the glovebox opening, some have managed that way. Otherwise radio out, easy enough make sure you have a code some are coded, mine wasn’t when I had mine out.

Once you have an AUX socket lead working (3.5 mm jack), you can use a Bluetooth adapter with it (costs about £7).

Then your phone can Bluetooth connect to it which is handy if you don’t like wires everywhere.

thanks, that looks a very simple solution & uncluttered. the whole glovebox pops out anyway so should help.

good ideathanks  but dont use phone for music.

I’ve got a griffin road trip that is a bit more expensive than the one you linked to but works well.

I only have to retune if I head out of my usual area and encounter different radio stations, but to be fair I don’t live in a heavily populated place!

I’ve been using the roadtrip for the last five years, daily, without any issues.

well, I splashed out the huge sum of £1.99 for the cheap & cheerful ipod transmitter as an experiment…
tried it in my wife’s shopping trolley Kia Picanto the other day; Rubbish sound quality & loads of interference. hey ho, not a lot lost I thought

Today I thought to try in the 5 before binning it; Result! tuned it to 89.7 drove round town. Perfect quality!

have not ried to move very far out of area yet but then when travelling cross country the exhaust music is so loud that it doesn’t matter anyway.

I may well buy the better unit suggested by jazzkat;

thanks all.

Have you got a tape player in your 5?  I used to use a radio thing in my old iPod but gave up as its OK for short trips but any long journeys and it needed constant reetune and often there was no clear frequency. But a good old school tape adapter works far better, OK so its not cutting edge but it doesn’t cut out and it doesn’t drain the iPod battery like the transmitter did either

no tape player but the transmitter is powered from cig lighter (treble socket + 2 usb in glovebox)
