- My model of MX-5 is: __2006 NC1
- I’m based near: __crewe
- I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: __tick over
I recently had a flat battery so I decided to fit a new one, i now seem to have a lumpy idle / tick over no problems previously it’s as though the car is hunting
Can anybody advise me as to what maybe causing this
It’s the DSC light on as well? That normally happens when the battery is disconnected. The fix is to turn on the ignition then go to full lock, both ways.
The irregular idling is due to the ECU having to relearn. Go for a drive and it will sort itself out.

This is normal for NC after a battery disconnect. As well as the lock-to-lock steering wheel rotation exercise you need to go for a drive to let the engine management system relearn it usual settings. Half an hour should be ample.
With a clean OEM air filter and V-Power it seems to be much quicker at relearning, I guess that’s closer to the factory defaults before venturing into the real world.
