Is 35mm on an nc to low?

Ok, I have my car booked in for lowering and geo at wim on friday. After some further research I have been hearing some say that a 35mm drop is a bit to much for real world driving, speed humps, rough roads etc.

Can others that have this mod give me their views. The car is not a daily driver and i want the car lowered for asthetic reasons more than anything but I dont want to compromise the ride to much as it may be an issue if I ever sell the car on.

The other thing is that my car is a non sport option pack car and I understand that it has different shocks to the sport. Would this be a problem?

would appreciate some feedback on these issues before I take the plunge.

I had the Bilsteins and about a 30mm drop on an NC1, it was great but would bottom out on speed bumps I if wasn’t careful. The latest Mk3 is already lowered a bit, I do fancy the “Progress” springs from the USA though, 1/2" drop but firms it up.

Ok, it seems all my fears about the drop are unfounded. Went into wim today and decided on the eibach pro kit instead of h&rs as I has heard that they could be a bit on the firm side.

Got to say im impressed with the car, the ride doesnt really feel that different despite the drop. As far as handling goes it felt safer on the motorway but ill have to wait till I get back to devon to try it out on the twisties but I can tell its much better. Best of all the stupid wheelarch gaps have disappeared. [(yy)]

I also got chatting to a fellow 5 owner who had come up from south wales. Some interesting rx8 mods on his car. I think hes a forum member on here.

Glad you had a good result at WiM, nice bunch of guys who know the MX5 very well, the drop did not make the ride worse on my car but made it feel much safer and more fun though.

Still go easy over high ridges, humps etc. it looks right dosen’t it

Looks spot on at the moment but wim said it may settle another 5mm.

Since i bought the car and learned about the high ride issue it always felt a little toy like but this mod really gives the car a more serious edge. .

My WIM setup will drag over speed humps ifim not careful, but I don’t care, it’s bloody ace everywhere else!

Another non sport owner going down the lowering route. Only difference with mine is I dumped the original shock absorbers (non Bilstein) as well. I replaced the whole lot with the Bilstein B12 kit (Bilstein Shocks with Eibach springs). I have to say like others I only have to be careful on two points some speed humps and the entry to my drive which is gated (some plonker put one of those gate stops in the centre). Not overly to bad though and even when I do catch it it’s only the metal “X” brace in the centre underneath I have caught 2/3 times (one or two bends on the edge of it but in honesty four bolts and it is off).

Oh and mine is an everyday car…
