- My model of MX-5 is: 1.8l Kendo 2011
- I’m based near: Oxford
- I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: Cambelt change
Hello all. I picked up my nc MX5 yesterday and since looking through the service history, I have noticed that the cam belt hasn’t been changed. It has only done 30k miles, but as a 13 year old car, I’m not sure if I should get it changed.
Does anyone know the usual price of getting it changed and is it an easy thing to replace myself?
Thanks all!
The 1.8 and 2.0 engines in the MX5 MK3, MK3.5 and MK3.75 have timing chains - not belts

You don’t have a cam belt. You have a chain which doesn’t require changing.

Mines a 2007 1.8 and it has a cam belt
Really ? All internet searches seem to suggest chain
Is yours an NC or a very late registered NB ?
To my knowledge - no NC was built with a cam belt engine

Your picture shows that you have the NC so you are mistaken that your car has the cam belt. Perhaps you are confusing it with the ‘fan bet’?
Just checked its a chain, thought it was a belt version lol
