Is Mazda service plan worth the money?

Hi everybody,

I just bought a nice silver Mk3 on 56 reg with 26k miles. I got it from the main Mazda dealer. It comes with full service history, all done by Mazda. From the receipts I got I can see that a typical service costs about £200-240. I have been offered a service plan, where I pay £540 (or so, don’t remember the exact number) and it gives me three services, so it is a bit cheaper. Obviously, only things stated in the plan (oil, oil filter, brake fluid etc) are included. If brakes or anything else need doing. I’d have to pay extra.

I could go to an independent garage for servicing and I’m sure this would be cheaper. But how does it affect resale value in the future? In particular if, e.g. in 3 years time, I want to go back to the same Mazda dealer and sell the car. The Mazda service history would be broken. Does it matter?

This particular Mazda dealer/garage has a good reputation locally, so I think they would do their servicing well.

Hi and welcome to the forum.  I like to keep a Mazda Service Record for my Mk2.5 and find my own Mazda Dealer will price match his servicing charges to the local competition when asked.

I do not think I would gain from taking out a similar Service Plan, and it rather ties you if you fall out with the Dealer or sell your Mk3 after a short time !

Actually, they will pay me back the reminder of the service plan if I sell the car earlier. And I think I can transfer it to another Mazda dealer.

Not too bad then, for peace of mind.  Do you have to pay upfront ?

I have a choice: up front or in 28 instalments. The latter option is something like £30 more expensive in total, but I don’t have to fork out over £500 now.
