I’m heading off for a jaunt to England on my bike start of August and will be passing Portsmouth on the way to Solent Sky in Southampton and was wondering if it’s worth popping in to MX5 Parts ? It’s not like I can splurge and bring home loads of goodies, but do they have a showroom of sorts or is it just a parts warehouse ?
Any thoughts ?
I’d rather have someone’s personal experience if possible.
A little rude, just trying to help.
I prefer ‘matter of fact, to the point’.
Not much of a showroom to look at really. Normally no-one in the shop and can often take a while to get service. Good company but much better to deal with on line. That’s honesty for you!
So not worth the effort then….thank you.
Yes, I went there a few years ago to get some parts as was in Portsmouth having my MH serviced.
As above not much to see or do at all really.
Helpful people but better tourist attractions that way, (home town Gosport).
Been there a couple of times, as Dipstick says, I found the shop unattended and limited in size and display. The second time I was collecting a part the I ordered on the phone, I got the feeling that it was inconvenient to collect and I should have used mail order.
Having said that, at shows they are a different bunch of people and I will always visit their stand.
Thanks guys….I was kinda hoping for a good customer experience with enthusiastic staff but it very much seems they are more online focused from your responses. I guess you think that there would be a passion, but maybe they see someone standing in front of them as an inconvenience. Oh well, I’ll not bother and focus on my other interests on my travels.
I have been trying to serve the MX5 community and create relationships with MX5 trade partners for 20 years. Failed miserable with, I think Val, from MX5Parts back in the day, who to give him his due did not tell me to go away and die but precluded me from working with them with prohibitive pricing and terms.
This is clearly a commercial enterprise with poor interactive co-operation, regrettably.
On that basis a drop in for a chat and a coffee likely to be a lacklustre experience unless you are perhaps spending £600+ on a softtop replacement.
I still buy from MX5parts, particularly when 10% off because their service as a supplier is generally very good. Don’t bother Davy, spend a few more hours on the coast.

All sounds a bit harsh.
Perhaps a bit of give and take and compromise and politeness would work.
So you buy their stuff and then sell it on making a profit, hmmm.
Nothing wrong with a bit of business competition.
Bit of sour grapes perhaps
Just an opinion .
You are entitled to your opinion; i just tell it how it actually is:-)
Hardly sour grapes after 20 year, particularly as I buy from them, just personal observation from real experience.
Not entirely sure what the rest of your post is going on about but I suggest you pick a fight elsewhere.
Finally from me to you.
Strange reply from a businessman.
Think I have just proved my point really now.
From previous posts you write, you get angry with people and rude because you don’t get your own way.
Perhaps why MX5 Parts didn’t want to discuss matters further with you.
Quite surprised why people actually buy from you with that attitude and no I will not be bullied by you.
You are allowed to say what you think, so should I.
Pretty sure the post will get closed now anyway.
Enjoy your weekend.
Finally from me to you.
‘your own way’, an interesting way of describing your apparent frustration
I believe there is only one way and that is the right way; perhaps why we differ.
I am not a businessman and in no way in the league of MX5Parts who are a proper hard nosed business.
I am a technical specialist who assists people like you but very much doubt you are of any use or consequence to me, just a minor irritant really.
Goodbye.
Interesting discussion.
As you can’t let it go and like to have the last word.
I don’t actually have ANY frustrations with you or indeed MX5 Parts.
The thread was about whether to visit or not. You decided to go into history dealings with them and clearly have an issue.
I have survived without your input all my life, so I see no reason to ask for it now.
Sadly, some people just do not like brutal facts.
It was your good self that slagged off MX5 Parts with your frustrations from 20 years ago not me.
I wouldn’t ask your opinion or advice on anything with that attitude and certainly do not need it or want it.
I will still send you a Christmas Card though.
