Love a wave to and from other owners…. Losing heart as multiple unreturned recently! Is the wave dead?

Certainly not, every 5 we encountered today gave a wave back.

Sometimes the other owner is unaware, or too slow to react, or not wishing to attract attention, etc.
However, waves can also come from other unexpected places. Several years ago when SWMBO and I were enjoying the sunshine in our Icy Blue Niseko we received an enthusiastic wave from a glamorous blonde in an immaculate powder blue SLK.
Of course we waved back.
But we also asked each other simultaneously “So who’s that?”
and then “Do you know her?”
and then “No.”
And then had a good laugh.
Our in-joke is we bought the Niseko because SWMBO wanted a powder blue SLK, “like the one in the club car-park” and I could not afford an SLK.

In short, the answer is no.
“reports of death of the wave are greatly exaggerated” 
What I’d always say, is continue to give them but never expect one in return. Then you’re never disappointed and any wave back is a bonus

Always try to give a wave. I really enjoy that part of 5 ownership. I may occasionally miss one though, especially if popping round a corner in a " concentrating on this one" corner etc

I’ve often wondered - what’s the etiquette around waving from your daily driver?
If you’re waving from a daily driver that’s an MX-5, all good. Carry on.
If you’re waving from another make of vehicle, expect a confused reaction if they spot you. I’ve done it myself a few times

Definitely still alive! I love a wave from and to my MX-5. I wish other people would wave from other brands too. I’ve never had a wave from another ioniq 5 while driving mine

Don’t get a lot of waves back down here. But it’s been like that for a while now.
I hope the wave is not dead - I often travel in my mate’s year old RF - he’d never had a 5 before and now is a waver!!
Great feel when a wave/flash is returned. Real fellow feeling!
My problem is that so many other sports cars have borrowed 5 features/shape and profile - I nearly flashed a Porsche the other day, driving into the sun! 
Also I feel the black badge will make spotting at faster road speeds harder.

Not many wavers around here. When I wave and don’t get a response, I assume they are focussing on dodging the potholes and didn’t see me wave.

Out on the Fylde Coast yesterday.
Three MX5s didn’t respond to our waves (2 NDs, 1 NC) 
but got three big waves from two MGBs and a Stag 
.
