Excuse my newbie ignorance, but just got my MX5 and notice no grill. Now, it might be standard, but seems strange to be open straight to the rad; this isn’t a 1930s supercharged 4.5 litre Bentley!
Steve is a 2001 Mk2.5 1.8. I see on the MX5 parts site, a number of after market items, but in Haynes, I see no standard one. Just posting to see if someone will confirm this.

Worth doing, Preferable to pick bits out of the grill than the radiator and whilst I’ve not had first hand experience you can get damage to the rad if very unlucky, so it goes anyway… Quite a few to choose from and fairly easy to fit…
My only reservation would be that Mazda might have left it open due to air flow. Possibly they discovered there was not enough natural flow. A grill might cause the engine to run a little hot in this unusually hot weather.
I have not noticed any differance in mine since I fitted my Grill, Just bought a second Eunos and the first mod will be to fit a grill. If you are make sure you grease the bolts that you have to take out to fit the grill.they have a habit of snapping off. I would do this about a week or so before fitting, this lets the grease soak in. What one to use. There are so many you look for one you like. Happy MX5 ing
lots fit a grill, few have heating issues. I wont say none as some grilles do restrict air flow, mesh less so than ones with cut out holes.! Maybe more to do with Mazda leaving it off so they could seel you one as a nice aftermarket item…
Mine didnt have one so I brought some expanded mesh in alloy and cut out my own, there is a pattern on here somware you can print out and even on the hottest days I have had NO cooling issues

I bought one of these from eBay, about £40 (or less in auction if you’re lucky).
I fitted a stainless drilled grille to my mk2.5 1.8 and had no overheating problems. It was bought off ebay and was so simple to fit.
Morning everyone, I live in Burntwood in Staffordshire and wondered if anyone could recommend a good bodyshop? A lady in a Merc very kindly reversed into my car a few days ago and has damaged the driver’s door and rear panel . Have had a quote from one garage but it seemd very expensive. Wondered if anyone could recommend a bodyshop in the Lichfield, Burntwood, Cannock etc area. Any help would be much appreciated.
