Is there a guide to replacing NB clutch master cylinder? I can only find NA guides!

(1999 10AE)

If I don’t absolutely slam the clutch down, I’m finding it hard to engage 2nd and 3rd gears.  This isn’t consistent, but it seems to happen more when I’m gentle with the clutch than when I really punch it down.

It was doing this when I bought the car, so I’ve already replaced the slave cylinder and the pipe (I used a braided pipe that drops vertically down instead of running all around the engine bay and then looping twice for no apparent reason), so I think it must be the master cylinder.  This did improve things somewhat, but not fully.

The NA guides simply say “remove both nuts from the firewall” but my NB has one nut and one stud - where does the other side of this stud come out?

Is the process similar otherwise?

Thanks!

There are many references online to this site and a look there provided this area where you can download the pdf’s for the NB. Not rocket science to find it.

Thanks, I’ll check on that site for a ‘99 book.

NA master cylinder is the same as NB, and the guide is wrong if it states “remove both studs”. LHD master cylinders have two studs, RHD master cylinders have one stud.

Same common part

You have to poke around by the clutch pedal for the other nut.

Repair kit would appear to cheap and easy to fit.

Looks like simple removal/replacement via the circlip.

I’ve got a NA, not a NB. But I replaced the seals in both master and slave cylinders a few years ago.

From what I remember to only bugger was getting into the footwell to get at the clutch pedal area.

Other than that it was straight forward, as Rhino has said it’s just a circlip and it’ll all come out from memory.

I made sure I put a little red rubber grease on all seals as it helps with assembly and gives the seals an easier life.

If you want to see the photos they are towards the bottom of this page.
