Hey folks, providing some pics below of the current state of the left hand front wing of my True Red NC. It’s suffering from some kind of white blooming on the paintwork. Also present on the other wing, but no way near as bad.
Has been present for over a year, but does seem to be getting gradually worse. It’s not textured at all, totally flat. I’ve also included some images of what it looks like when wet.
I’ve tried hand polishing, but not machine polishing yet. Could it be clear coat failure, or something else? Wondering if anyone has a clue? You’ll need to turn your brightness up!!
It does look like lacquer peel starting. My first NC had a minute amount on the front bumper (about 50p size) also true red. I dealt with it by applying paint and lacquer, easy enough for that. Previously it had lacquer peel on the leading edge of the bonnet, that had been dealt with by the previous owner.
For your NC I’m afraid it looks much serious. I was looking at a YouTube video about a car with lacquer peel all over, the expert opinion was strip it and repaint, relacquer. My advice get a professional to look at it, take it from there.
Annoyingly I’m starting to see very early signs on the boot lid as well.
I wonder how it’s all come about - I’m assuming my on/off outdoor car cover is partly to blame. Mostly stopped using it lately, but used it for a couple of years prior.
Guess it’s either a respray at some point or looking for replacement panels.
I’m guessing the cover may be the culprit. To me they create their own climate under there, cold damp then could be sunshine another day creating trapped moisture. Mazda have always had this ‘thin soft paint’ thing going, more delicate than other manufacturers.
