Isle of Wight

Are there any/many owners on here from the Isle of Wight?

Every single day I see LOADS of MX-5s but I’m unaware of any meets over here on the island.

Darren ?

Hi

Your nearest Owners Group would be Solent MX5 Owners Club

They have a section within the Forum and a Facebook page as below:

https://www.facebook.com/groups/886651174732300/

You may like to subscribe to the club and receive our by-monthly magazine and all the benefits that go with membership

Hope you can find some members on the island

Thanks!

I’ll keep trying to find the Solent area on here. Any chance of a link please?

Will I need to subscribe as a full member to be able to see all areas? If so, I’ll need to dust off the bank card lol

Hi Darren

The following should take you to the ‘Solent Forum’ http://www.mx5oc.co.uk/forum/default.aspx?g=topics&f=172

I don’t believe you need to be a paid-up member to access the forums.

Speak to Mal and Terry, maybe you can set up a meet or pub night for them on the island I know they are just doing their Run and activity calendar for next year at the moment, so now’s a good time to speak to them

Thanks Iain, I’ll do just that!!

Welcome, from the North Island

Nice to speak to another Islander! I’m an ex-Caulkhead from Binstead who’s escaped to West Sussex.

Ryde, but I’m an overner from Kent having only moved over recently. My MX-5 is still on the mainland but I’m looking forward to bringing it over to join all the others that are over here and being used daily.

Welcome

Last I heard you had to have been on the Island for 17 yrs to be recognised as a local… having been away for 50 yrs or so I guess I would be regarded as an alien by now!

Here’s something to help you with the language, but I suspect a good knowledge of Cockney Rhyming Slang would be more appropriate nowadays.

For anyone interested, we’re planning to have a meet and a drive on the Isle of Wight on Sunday 3rd June. So keep your eyes peeled if you think you may like to partake!

Hi Darren, Greatly interested!    Think South Central Members will be keen for this  please keep us informed,

Alan & Helen,

Alan and Helen,

I will do! I’ll be making the plans with John Wheeler in a couple of months and keeping Solent area’s Mal and Terry informed too.

I also plan to print some basic flyers to put under the wipers of the many MX5s on the island too.

I’ll PM my contact details to you.

Hi Alan & Helen, Mal & terry AC’s for Solent area have put the IOW event on our Solent Events Calendar…Patricia and Me will already be on the Island as we are celebrating our 1st Wedding Anniversary on 2nd June…

Darren is working on getting special deals for ferry crossing for the mainland members and sorting our route, we hope to meet up with Darren while we are on the IOW to discuss plans…

Hi Guys, We are at present experiencing some technical problems receiving replies from the forum despite our efforts of resolving this problem and, therefore, could you email us any info you may have regarding the trip please  thanks

GREAT NEWS…please go to the Solent Forum to book your space, Darren has arranged a truly low price for a minimum of 15 cars…

Wightlink have quoted me £59.50 return. Their group discounts start at 15 cars, but rather than tell me the price of that I’ve had to ask them! It’s £56.50 if you’d get the 7am and 8pm ferries.
Fyi the ferries are significantly cheaper if you get early morning and late night crossings. For example, on Red Funnel the 7am crossing is £33.00 and the 10am is £40.25. The 5:30pm return is £45.00 and the 9pm is £38.25. Straight away that’s £71.25 instead of £85.25. With the 10% discount we’ve been offered that reduces to £64.12, so a saving of over £20.

PRICE even better now!, Please contact Darren over on the Solent Forum before you book so he can coordinate the group of 15 cars…

To Quote…
I’ve heard back from Wightlink - if we have over 15 cars travelling by ferry they will offer a 20% discount. So if you booked today, the 7am and 8pm crossings would cost you £45.20 instead of £56.50

However, the price will increase the nearer to the date we get.
