RECENT ENGINE REBUILD, std 1.6 70 k ish new rings, head redone, skimmed with new seals decoked etc etc all gaskets, and running really well, 1600 mile in blows a gasket at high revs, drove home thinking piston gone a few miles with no sign or smell of excessive water temp nand good oil pressure car is a 1993 eunos so guages should be fairly accurate or so i thought. head pulled, gasket really poor condition comprehensively gone at no.4 and signs of issues between all bores and another starting at no.1 .its had been a reinz full gasket kit, we reckoned the spigots that line the gasket were off and even the ring lands were not evenly clamped wise, however head back and was refaced 2 thou and put back together with a new std Mazda gasket, and was running well but a few puffs of smoke, maybe i cooked the new rings we thought, or maybe the gaskets were really old and the valve stem oil seals perished. so dry and wet compression tests were done and no sign of a piston issue at all, so speaking with a friend with lots of engine building experience he reckoned do the valve stem seals with head still attached so i started to look at a minor strip down, necessary as i had just bought a new 3 core alloy rad with needed fitted trial wise, when i noticed oil running out of the air trunk pipe which joins the throttle body to the air flow meter as i was pulling it off, now i had to ponder for a couple of mins and then i realised thats where the left cam box vent is connected to and i find the throttle body big pipe, attached to the TPS… its still an auto type this was an auto pre conversion, full of oil still, and i knew then where my last big oil smoke camouflage came from… i think this happened once before when i had the older 276 k motor with oil rings seized on the pistons.its has to be computer controlled and perhaps the 30 year old auto ECU needs a new home in the bin, disconnected everything still running the right side cam box with a new valve connected but the left side is rerouted blocked and will be directed into a catch tank. no more smoke and car is running really well and very very crisp. my question can i replace the old auto eunos ecu with a std same era 1.6 manual one without a lot of hassle…will
no comments?? someone must know whether the ECU’s will aline or not?? will
