Istop Not Ready

Yes, the SOC should be read through the “OBD2 port” prior to battery disconnection as it will read zero SOC on reconnection. If the SOC could not be read prior to disconnection for any reason then battery SG should be checked prior to reconnection and the i-Stop learn being carried out.

Pretty much as per the workflow in the document that you linked to although the procedure changes with model year so I wouldn’t take that procedure as read for all MX-5s.

Anyone using a battery isolator to make this more convenient to do? If so what product did you use? The cheap ones on Amazon certainly have a bad reputation.

I use one of the Amazon screw type isolators on my Mk1 and Mk4 and never had an issue. Used if parking up with a 5amp bypass connector to keep radio etc powered up. If someone tries to start with screw terminal removed, fuse blows instantly and car disabled.

Ah thanks, good to know you had no problems. Those are the ones that seem to have a poor reputation!
