Jackson Racing Exhaust

Hiya

Hub and I spent a lot of our time at Chatsworth eyeing up exhausts. The one that caught both our attention was a Jackson Racing one. It looked very nice.

Hub has had a google but is struggling to find one for my MX5. Does anyone know anything about them or where we can get one from please ?

Thanks all

Jackson Racing exhausts are by most accounts good quality kit. However, I’m not sure anyone in the UK currently sells them - not even Moss, which advertises the manifolds. You might be able to import one from the USA, but this won’t be cheap - and JR isn’t exactly budget priced anyway. Plus there’s the risk of it getting damaged in transit.

I’m sure others will be along in a minute if I’m wrong about any of this…

If you’re looking for a quality item, maybe try Racing Beat as an alternative: http://www.racingbeateurope.com/

The Racing Beat Power Pulse systems bear more than a passing resemblance to the (cheaper?) Cobalt systems sold by Moss in the UK.

In terms of tailpipe design, so does the MX5Parts entry-level stainless system - though this does lack the resonator (presumably one of the reasons it’s reputedly so loud).

And yes - the Cobalt certainly is cheaper than the Racing Beat. By, well, lots.

I’m basically waiting for the Cobalt or possibly the MX5 Parts system to go on offer again, and then I’ll probably buy one. The MX5Parts’ volume issue is the only reason I didn’t get one when they were £135 at Chatsworth - but for that little money I’m sort of regretting it now.

Do you get much popping and banging with the Cobalt, niggle?

On a cold engine I very occasionally notice a subtle pop on lift-off when accelerating hard through up-shifts.

On a fully warmed up engine though, none at all. TBH, this is what I would expect from a standard ECU and a reasonably healthy engine and fuelling system - no unburnt fuel getting into the exhaust system.

I suppose I could wire up a dashboard switch to disable the throttle idle switch - this should give plenty of popping and banging on over-run. Smile

I have this exhaust. I love the sound, the kit was nice when i bought it. But after 5 years, its rusting and some insides of it are gone and rattling away (the silencer and tubing T409 stainless steel)  and the only shiney bit left is the nice exhaust tip (T304 stainless steel)  read this info http://www.stainless-online.com/manufacturing/304-409-stainless.htm

I only found out about different grades of steel from going to get a manifold custom fitted to my mk1. the man at the shop told me about it.

I feel robbed as this jackson racing cost me £400 from MOSS. So now i am thinking of getting this exhaust custom made with the same tip. So if u do buy an exhaust, ask wat grade the stainless steel is make sure its 304.

According to Moss, the Cobalt system is made from T304, except for the inner perforated tubes which are T409. Sad

Vicky the MX5parts exhaust is a good option if you cant find the one youre looking for.

Especially the twin exit like mine Wink.  They have one on Ebay at the moment & usualy go for about £200 on there (£303 usually).

The sound is perfectomundo…unlike on the MK1 which many say are too loud.

Single exit will obviously be cheaper.

I had a good look at them at The Spring Rally. I want one with a rolled end. I’m now looking at Racing Beat ones or one I saw in Banzi made by Mongoose. I’ll get there in the end Thumbs up
