I’ve just had a check in our street. Two first cars for youngsters out there. 15 and 16 plate so 9-10 years old. Pretty much the norm. My first car back in 1975 was a 1965 Anglia Estate. Had it a couple of years or so and in that time I repaired holes in both front wings with filler, Had plates welded on inner and outer sills, changed the petrol tank because it leaked and had an engine swap as it had two oval cylinders.
We warn people to be scared of NBs as the chassis rails are weak, they are all over twenty years old. If you are looking for an NA then it’s probably going to need some work to sills and rear arches but that’s not surprising for a 30-40 year old car.
So many really nice NAs still on the road though while seeing a twenty to thirty year old everyday car out there is a bit unusual. While construction of cars and protection methods may have improved over the years the chemical reaction of corrosion of steel by salt water remains the same.
