Hello all,
It is with huge smile that I write - I am finally an MX-5 owner! I’m in the Glasgow area for anyone interested. The car in question - ND2 MX-5 RF [2.0].
The non TL;DR version.
I spent my teens watching Top Gear (yeah yeah, heard that before) and so naturally, I got into cars. I am the type of person who does a lot of research and reading before settling onto something.
The MX-5 was a car that came up again and again when looking for affordable, fun, pure sportscars. I did some research and what really lit my pants was the community and the owners of these fine automobiles. They always seemed nice, genuine and enthusiastic. I wanted some of that for myself, too.
Skip to the dreaded 2020… Somehow I found myself with loose change in my pocket and naturally started looking for a 5. At the time I could afford a not-so-great condition NB, with a budget of about £2,000 I knew I couldn’t fix it up and bring the car back to its former glory. Getting an MX-5 was supposed to be a special moment, one I have been looking up to (at that point) for over 6 years. As much as I wanted it, and as much as it hurt my heart, I had to settle for something else, or have a disappointing experience.
I still wanted a fun lightweight sportscar, that I can hone my mechanics skills on, and get on the track with. Roll the red carpet for an MR2 Roadster. Cool car, quirky, strange. Baby Lotus Elise some would say. Handled well, needed a lot done, so it fit the bill nicely. Plus it being the first car I take on track, I could (emotionally) afford to drive to my limit, or even go past it.
All good stuff, yet whenever I saw an ND, I could not take my eyes off it. The lines, the style, the aggressive yet big smile. I knew I wanted one, I knew I will never let go wanting that car, but I knew the time was coming. So, few days ago I finally made my move, and got this beauty. It is THE car I wanted, RF, ND2 with the updated engine, Soul Red paint, gunmetal wheels, good condition. Granted, the car is in ‘like new’ condition but I won’t complain ![]()
I have been driving it for 2 days now, and I cannot wipe the smile out of my face when I am in it, about to get in it, or have gotten out of it. I have never ever been so excited to drive, just get in and drive.
Many thanks to all who have spent the time to read through this! I hope you found it interesting and hope to see you around!
ps. Advanced apologies for the inevitable “stupid” questions I might be asking on this forum.
