Just acquired Mk3.5 BBR Stage 2 - many questions

  1. My model of MX-5 is: Mk3.5 PRHT 2.0i SE BBR Stage 2
  2. I’m based near: Glasgow
  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: BBR info

Hi all, I have just bought this and need get it fettled to my liking.
It was a probate sale in the past so I don’t have any of the BBR documentation.
I’m very familiar with Mk1 s and spannering ( I have had a supercharged Mk 1 for 26 years) but know nothing about Mk3/3.5 and at bit less about turbos, so any help appreciated .
The installation was a DIY installation with ( as far as I know) a BBR map ( the pop/bang version) .Kit was fitted 2019

Here goes with the questions, I’m sure there will be more

  • does anyone have a copy of the BBR DIY install instructions they could share , so I know what goes where and what is OEM vs BBR .

  • engine top cover - the engine cover is fitted ,but the 2 rubber grommet posts next to the plugs are missing , so it is held on by the single spring clip only . There are no studs for the grommet posts and no sign of a place for them - is this as a result of the BBR mods ?

  • wire coming from l/h ( passenger side) connector below the inlet manifold - connected with a screw block and disappears…any ideas ( am assuming BBR related)

  • another wire spliced at the front of the fusebox - may be the other end of the same wire but not sure …

  • does not have a strut brace fitted - I think the factory strut brace should fit with the turbo , but I’d like confirmation ( I know I will also need the bulkhead plate with the brace mounts)

  • this bracket is loose. ( the one with 2 holes and nothing fitted to it in the pic .I assume something was removed for turbo fitting and i can remove the bracket

If there are any other Mk3 BBRs in central Scotland happy to meet up and compare notes /kick tyres :slightly_smiling_face:

Probably more questions to follow once I get a proper look at it at the weekend.

thks
Jim

Have you spoken to BBR?

I get my car serviced there every year and find them very helpful.

Only small input from myself…

I think the small bracket with holes in could of held an aftermarket brake booster stop.

Thanks, didn’t think of that but could well be .

Just to update this

  • the bracket is now removed :slightly_smiling_face:

  • the wire is a badly installed connection from the MAP/temp sensor on the inlet manifold to the original IAT sensor wire in the harness at the airbox as part of the turbo conversion . On the list to be tidied up .

  • a kind member in the Glasgow area has supplied a strut brace FOC ( he has fitted an aftermarket one

  • I visited BBR on the way back from holiday , they were very helpful and I now have a copy of the installation instructions. :+1:

  • the car appears to have an aftermarket/non Mazda cam cover for some reason .

tks
Jim

Cam cover looks to be the Ford version.
