Just joined, from France

Hi,  I bought a MX5 Black venture, not quite 3 years old in May from a Mazda agent in the UK, its GREAT, I love it, its the first Maxda I have owned and I’m well impressed.  You may be wondering why I bought in the UK and not France?..the reason being I could not find a 2lt model from a Maxda agent in the whole of France, it appears that this particular model was made for the UK market and not France, also the 2nd hand prices are much higher in France and the MX5 is a rare vehicle over here, we have only seem 2 in the past 6 months.  We come to the UK a few times a year and when I bought the car it was great to have so many other MX5 drivers wave and beep (something that doesn’t happened here).  Looking forward to reading other posts on this form!!!

Welcome to the forum Beech, and I appreciate what you said about prices and availability in France.
Are you ex pat? Your English is very good for a Frenchman, though not exceptional, but it does make me wonder?

Having said that my son and I had a brief conversation with a Frenchman in Le Blanc in 2015 and he spoke perfect English too. That from someone (me) who can hardly speak French at all!

Possibly the reason why there are so few MX5’s in France may be due to scarcity of dealers, we struggled to find any when we last went to Le Brenne, though there was one in Reims, when we went in 2012.(One MX5 on show!) Our Dealers here have lots of MX5’s on show, new and used. Also we have many JDM (Eunos) models here which have dragged down prices overall in the UK, hence the price difference. Scarcity means higher pricing.

In a country where the norm is rain, then a convertible would not make sense, but sportscars are few and far between generally in Europe, where the sun often shines, but quite common here, such are the English!

greetings and welcome

Hi Again all!! sorry its taken a little time to thank everyone for their lovely welcome, and especially to Mondrian for taking the time to give me the info regarding the French MX5 owners club and info on the get together in Normandie next year which we will probably attend…now for a few answers…

I am ex-pat, FEMALE (extra Hi to the girls here).  I live with my Husband and rescue dog (not allowed in car) about 1 and !/4 hours inland from La Rochelle.  The car is a very shiny black and chrome 2Ltr 6 speed hardtop Venture, 2 years old.

Had a bit of a catastrophic incident around 6 weeks ago, after a lovely hot evening of driving with the roof down, in the early hours of the morning we had a freak hailstorm, the MX5  was outside and was caught in the hailstorm, the hailstones were the size of marbles and did a lot of damage to the bonnet and boot, also cracked the windscreen.  Our local Mazda agent sorted it out but I was unimpressed to find that whoever had taken the old windscreen out had done so using a screwdriver or similar to take the covers off the screws which hold the windscreen trim in place, not only did they put the broken covers back on (loosely) but damaged the trim as well, and scratched the wing. They obviously thought I wouldn’t notice - wrong! took it straight back and next week they will be replacing the damaged trim and screw covers, its has taken all this time to get the replacement parts, needless to say I won’t be taking it to this particular agent in the future to have it serviced.  Have any of the other French owners had problems with Mazda agents here? i would be interested to know if I have just been unlucky!

Looking forward to posting on the forum and reading all your posts…Beech
