Don’t bother…I’ve driven MX5’s with and without a K&N cone filter - makes absolutely no difference apart from some increased induction roar. The engine bay heat wont be lessened by a heat shield, its just a heat shield. Trick is getting cooler air into the manifold, that’s where some gains can be made.
As above. I eventually returned to stock thanks to excessive heat soak, and just popped a KN pad in.
The better solution is the gizmo that involves boring a hole in the nearside scuttle panel and sucking in cold air from there.
Here was my set up with a custom additional heatshield which was as useful as a chocolate fire guard.
It sounded good tbh, but hot air flat spots especially in summer (Mk1) were a nuisance, with sometimes a lot of churning to restart probably due to fuel vapourisation.
