K&N Filter - exhaust heat shield - any photos please?

Hi.  I’m wanting to fit my new K&N air filter to replace the stock one but I have 2 issues I need to sort out but not sure how.

  1. How to secure the filter and pipe, so the filter doesn’t rest on the vehicle’s bodywork?

  2. How to make/ position a metal heat shield to stop the hot manifold air from being directly sucked in?

Does anyone have any photos of both or either of the above mods please for some ideas?

Many thanks

Don’t bother…I’ve driven MX5’s with and without a K&N cone filter - makes absolutely no difference apart from some increased induction roar. The engine bay heat wont be lessened by a heat shield, its just a heat shield. Trick is getting cooler air into the manifold, that’s where some gains can be made.

As above. I eventually returned to stock thanks to excessive heat soak, and just popped a KN pad in.

The better solution is the gizmo that involves boring a  hole in the nearside scuttle panel and sucking in cold air from there.

Here was my set up with a custom additional heatshield which was as useful as a chocolate fire guard.

It sounded good tbh, but hot air flat spots especially in summer (Mk1) were a nuisance, with sometimes a lot of churning to restart probably due to fuel vapourisation.

Save your money!
