Key Fob not working after battery change

Hello all,

my friend has a 08 mx5 and after a new battery was fitted the key fob will not open the locks, boot etc. Is this a reset at the dealer and should there be a card with a number supplied for the dealer and any idea of cost?

If it worked before the battery change, then it should work after.

I’ve replaced mine and my friends MX5 without any issues.

I’d check that the battery is installed correctly, that the battery is a good battery and that the battery tangs inside the fob are making a good contact.

You may have to bend them slightly.

Sorry I ment the car battery was replaced not the fob battery.

Hmm, I agree with Keat63, car battery replacement should not make any difference to locking on NC.

Check the cell contacts in the key-fob as well as the contacts on the back where the fob buttons are.  Look for damage or contamination on its circuit board where it might have been handled roughly during the coin-cell change.

When I replaced the car battery in my NC a couple of months ago, there was no battery in the car for more than an hour while I took out the battery casing and did some clean-up to prevent the rust from the screws spreading into the bodywork.  Apart from the usual DSC reset being needed everything worked fine as before.

There are a couple of places that repair key-fobs economically, search for a couple of the other threads here about this to see various links and success stories.

Thank you both for your prompt respons.

Silly question maybe, but has your friend tried the other plipper?  That could narrow it down a bit.

I imagine these are rolling code jobs.  I don’t know much about how they work, but presumably they can get out of sync.

Have a look in the Downloads sections, there is a guide to registering keyless entry transmitters. It’s in the Technical folder in the Soft Top Hardtop How To Guides section in Electrics & ICE.

sounds like you need to re match the transmitters to the car you fine how to do this on the internet its easy i have done it before

If it does turn out to be a faulty key fob, try these people, they sorted my MK3.5 fob. Excellent service and competitive price.

Posted the fob to them on a Monday and returned to me by registered post on Thursday.
