Keys - getting a new one?

  1. My model of MX-5 is: NC mk 1
  2. I’m based near: __Tunbridge Wells, Kent
  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: I have two keys for my auto lock/alarm operation. When you change the battery it is easy to break the internal clips which is the case for both keys. Hence I have to use electrical tape to keep the two parts of the keys together.
How do I go about obtaining a new key without paying a fortune (say £50+). Thanks Andy

Simply buy a new shell, and transfer key section, electronics, and maybe Mazda logo and transponder if the bit with the key in it needs a swap as well.

I’ve done this on two different keys. My original replacement source of shells is no longer available, but these shells are pretty much generic.

These fit - just used them for my keys for exactly the same reason.
I only used the button part of the new key cases - my key blades and chip housing are ok.

Make sure your keys are Mitsubishi before ordering

That is brilliant - just ordered.

Kindest

Andy

Just to confirm, the immobiliser chip is in the part of the key that the blade is attached to. You can’t just swap your blade across (or have the new blade cut) to the replacement key body, the immobiliser chip needs to remain with the new key.
