After seeing the very impressive MEV Exocet at Donnington Park I’m very tempted to sell my current project (Land Rover Lightweight) and buy one of those. Having looked on the Exocet forum and followed one of the build threads where a guy bought a Cat D Euphonic and sold off all the bits for a tidy sum I have a question for the experts out there. What are the implications of using a Cat D write off as a donor for a kit car. The Kit has to go through an IVA (or SVA whatever it’s called) anyway.
Next question, where is best to get a Cat D write off and does anyone want a 1980 ex-military Land Rover Lightweight.
My (inexpert) understanding was that an IVA/SVA is not required if you’re using the same, substantally unmodified chassis. So, by using an Exocet chassis you are building a new car with a new chassis number, so the legal status of the donor isn’t relevant.
If you mean the practical implications, I guess the suspension geometry could be damaged…if I was building an Exocet that’s what I’d be looking closely at in any prospective donor.
I’ve been thinking about an Exocet too. The economics make sense if you have the space to do it. The only reservation I have with an Exocet is…I know beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but damn, that thing is ugly. I would have to ditch the bodywork and get handy with the fibreglass.
