Kizuna configured, now... can someone lend me a few quid?

Blue roof, choice of blue or grey body? “Radical” combo for the new Kizuna model. Conservative approach again from Mazda colour scheme department, sigh…

Affordable too, at close to £40k once specced up :scream:

I did the same as you a few days ago and thought that 40K was a bit rich to perhaps do 3,000 - 4,000 miles a year :see_no_evil:.

Yep, when I think back to pre-sillypricestime and picked up my prereg GTSportNav+ with 9m on the clock for £20k, does make me wonder if we’ll ever see those prices again.

I doubt those prices will ever come back, which is why the second hand market is so buoyant.

I’m out of touch with new car prices - bloody hell fire, 40 k for an MX5 …I mean, why would you when 40 k would get you a nice pre owned Boxster , Cayman or Elise , a very fast Seven or yes, a very nice MX5 - but with 20 k change ?

I did spec it up with various options but the base Kizuna is still over £30k

Have you seen the price of a new Caterham recently :astonished:

… and much higher maintenance costs from the word go!

And for a 1.5 litre model, without an LSD etc. It doesn’t really matter to me what colour the roof is as when I am driving it, it is down anyway. When it is parked on the drive the car has a 1/2 cover on it that’s blue :grinning:. So win/win :+1:

Encourages more people into PCP or other type of finance arrangement thus increasing the likelihood of another agreement/unit ‘sold’ in 3 years time…

You have put some options on that to get it to £39K! It is true with most cars once you delve in to up spec stuff.
The bog standard car is listed at just under £26K. Take the vat and other costs out, or even with them for any new car, I think that is pretty reasonable for what is a low volume somewhat specialist car which has, in relative terms, expensive bits on, compared to your average Corolla.
Add in posh bits tax and a high dependency customer base and it is looking pretty reasonable. The latest Type R Civic is £50K! The simpler GR86 over £30.

Yep but there not new I would never buy second hand there is always a deal to be had ……got mine new for 24K with all the toys thrown in …saved over 5k

Why would you? For the sake of a blue roof? Mazda’s site has a few pre-registered 2L GT models with all the toys thrown in. No need to spec anything up.
Some with only 5 miles on the clock at £30k.
Wait a few weeks and a Kizuna will appear as pre-registered at a more sensible price…

An equivalent 1.5 litre ND with similar spec to my NC 1.8 Venture is nearly £30k now. That’s a 50% jump in 10 years. Difficult to justify a new MX-5 as a second car now.

I’m sorry, but that is just financial circumstances. Some, if not many would have said in 2013 that £20K was beyond justification as a second car (or even first car) in 2013. That you see it as 50% more is not an indication of failure. A pint on milk in 2013 was 46p, it is now 95p or 106% increase.

Can’t say I have ever even considered ‘justifying’ any sports car I’ve owned . If I really like it , want it , will enjoy owning it and can afford it I will buy it . Trouble is , I have Ferrari 296 GTB taste but an MX 5 budget

I don’t know how you managed to ‘spec up’ to that extent, metallic is included and there are no factory extras available, it’s all dealer fit, so apart maybe from Android auto and a rear camera the rest is mostly bling/Carlos Fandango stuff that will add nothing to the resale value or usability.

It’s pretty much the equivalent of the early 1.5 special editions (Arctic & Icon) which were about £21,000 list price in 2017. I’ve added Roadie’s camera (£70 or so) to my Arctic and that’s pretty much it. The Kizuna already includes the Bose and AFS headlamps. £30k is still a lot, but cars have all gone up a lot since 2017. It certainly isn’t a £40k car.

In passing, I did consider Android Auto. But it really wouldn’t add much for me - I use Google maps on a phone, and keep the MZD standard map ‘north up’ to give me a ready reference to my overall position and direction. And I would resent paying the price asked for something that should really be standard.

Hi everyone, correct me if i am wrong.

I think Mazda says Kizuna means ‘enduring bonds’ like the bonds between people.

その兄弟の間には強い絆がある。
[その きょうだい の あいだ には つよい きずな が ある。]
Sono kyoudai no aida niha tsuyoi kizuna ga aru.
There is a strong bond between the brothers.

I think kizuna has three meanings and uses.

  1. Bond - like the bond between people
  2. Tether, fetters - for animals.
  3. Used as a girls given name.

The Kanji is typed in Romaji as kizuna or kiduna.
I think 絆 きずな kizuna is used for the MX-5! This one, 紲 きづな typed as kiduna, perhaps is used for the second meaning but I am not 100% sure!

Ofiaich!

It’s the difference between the price of something and its value. £18,500 for an MX-5 in 2013 was good value, I feel. £29,000 (or whatever) in 2023 is not. The car isn’t significantly better, it’s at the same (very old - 8 years) stage in its model lifecycle, and CPI has only risen 30% over that period. £24,000 would be in line with general price inflation.
