I have just purchased a 1992 mk1 roadster eunous being all new to the Mx5 world and it being my first Mazda sports car i have a few quick questions for you guys out their .
As my car is a import the clock is in km per hr not mile per hr do you have to have a sticker on the clock to show you the conversion speed to mile per hr and is it illegal if you do not have this
Also filled up with fuel yesterday to the max petrol gauge reads full does it read full when the engine is off as well or have i got a sticky guage sorry for all the qustions as im not used to driving a old car but looking forward to it when the sunshine comes out
Speedometer - must show in MPH for MoT - MX5parts (and elsewhere) sell a replacement dial / dial set. The trip meter etc will still be in km - that doesn’t matter ~ you just have to get used to the European way!
The fuel guage doesn’t move when ignition off - it stays where it was last.
Yep, mph not needed for MOT. I had a special edition Roadster, with a motorcycle-type of speedo, that had apparently passed 10 MOts with kph only fine. MPH might be needed though under use and construction regs.
Some testers might not like sticker sets though; at one time it was common for importers to stick on tick marks approximating to MPH. Failed because they didn’t illuminate. These days, replacement dial faces are cheap.
Welcome to mx5’s. My import has passed 1 MOT with no form of conversion but is due in 2 weeks again at a different garage so will see then. Have fun, don’t wiat for the sun to put the roof back.
