I’ve recently bought a 2008 plate 2.0l Niseko PRHT from a Mazda Main Dealer with just 17000 miles (when collected) which recently had a 78000-mile service and new rear drop links fitted.
For the first week, all was well, driving well and handling well. It then developed a metallic knocking noise (sounds like loose fittings?) mainly from the nearside rear and occasionally from the offside rear.
Still handles well but the noise is worse when going over potholes and rough ground.
Any ideas as to what this could be and is it likely to be an easy fix?
BTW the car came with a 12 Month Mazda Approved Used Vehicle Warranty.
Do the PRHT’s generally make a lot of creaking noises when hardtop up and is it worth investing in sound dampening material in the door voids and boot?
I’ve purchased a set of Delrin door bushes ready to fit when they come through the post.
Lastly, there appears to be surface rust in the nearside rain channel, what is the best cure for this?
I have a 2009 PRHT Sport tech. The roof is creaky and the other ones ive been in the roof is creaky. I have installed solid door bushings and done some TLC work on the seals around the roof and channels. The roof being creaky dont bother me as i can barely hear it now i have my exhaust on but its just part and parcel of car with bare minimum insulation
I thought as much with the creaks, I’m happy to put up with it as it’s a great car!
I’m fitting some Delrin door bushings when they come through the post.
Cheers for the reply
Some silicon oil or Gummi Pflege on the rubber seals might help with the noises, and won’t do any harm.
I wouldn’t fit hard door “bushings”, the OE ones are plenty strong in the vertical plane with the steel core, and provide cushioning laterally when the door is being closed. Against that, the hard plastic ones are very fashionable especially in eye-catching colours.
